fuel tank swelling

  1. Hi all, came back from a ride yesterday only to discover the right side of the tank is slightly rippled/ distorted. I know they have been having these problems in the usa, caused by ethanol added to their fuel. Has anyone on the forum experienced similar problems or know anybody that has?

  2. A few in on the motoguzzi forum have had the same problem think the tanks were replaced

    goog luck with it

  3. What's caused it?

  4. Ethanol is added to petrol now, this apparently causes plastic fuel tanks to swell and distort.

  5. You would have hoped that Ducati would have learned their lesson regarding the nylon used in their tanks, following on from all the recalls in the States, it could end up costing them a fortune.

  6. been a big issues in the states where they have 10% ethenol in their fuels and starting to become an issue here where supermaket fuel particularly seems to have high ethenol contet
ducati have been known to replace tanks in the UK as a goodwill gesture but wont admit its a fault

  7. If you read the above thread, it not only tells you how to spot which fuels have ethanol in - by law anything over 5% has to be labelled with a specific note, and anything over 10% also has to be labelled with a different note - but also which companies blend it into their petrol, or not.
