Hi All, Been having problems with my 2006 sport classic. I turn the ignition on all seems ok, press starter button it turns over. Wont start but when i release button it continue to to turn over until i turn ignition off. If i turn ignition back on all seems fine again. Had Russ from Ducatimondo out to have a look on Saturday and he replaced the relay switch on the right handside of bike. But still no luck. The switch gear looks ok. Not been run for months. Last time i was out it cut out twice. First time it started straight away, second i had to bump it. But was fine for about 30 miles till i got home. Any ideas anyone???????
Ignition pick-up lead connector? I had quite similar symptoms on my 750sie, due to furred up terminals on the connector itself.
The Sport Classics have an autostart function. When you press the button the ECU keeps the starter turning until the engine fires or it times out. About 15 seconds or so. You might not have noticed before because it always started quickly. The problem is why is it not starting.
I did notice that it did stop after a short time on its own. Will the pick up lead show up on a diagnostic system?

Sorry about my previous reply; my phone isn't the best for replying with. The dealers Ducati Diagnostic system will certainly show the error. If you have access to JPdiag or ScanM5X they should show it as a crank sensor error, if that's the cause. If the fuel pump relay switches on the pump at key on but doesn't while the engine is cranking then it's almost certainly the crank sensor.
