I am about to change the belts on my 1098, however I can find any vid clips for on how to. Have read through the manual and seams straight forward enough, (I have done belts before on 2 x 749, and some monsters, 600 and s2r) but I like to see it before changing them, just to avoid any surprises. Anyone know where I can find a video of changing belts? It seems to me that it is the same procedure/method as the 749? thanks
Just had a look the website shows 749/999 which I've done before. Thinking it's pretty much the same. I have the belts already but will keep that in mind next time. Thanks
I recently done mine without issue using the clip on youtube on 749/999 belt change for reference, easy enough, hardest part I found was stripping the bike to get to the vertical cover. Has anyone managed to remove the horizontal spark plug on 1098 without removing the radiator?
Oh dear, not that bloody front spark plug. I am supposed to be replacing mine either after work tonight or tomorrow morning. I did pop this question on another thread and am advised its do-able with care without removing the radiator. Pegboy, how about being the first to put a video up on the 1098 belt change? It will be a big help to billions of 848/1098/1198 owners. I need mine replacing too.
Right, i changed my plugs friday evening as it had been a warm sunny day. The front plug is pretty straight forward, undo the cap head screw with an allen key and give the coil pack some twisting action before trying to pop it off. Next, remove the hexagon screw holding the left hand side of the radiator onto the frame. This gives a little movement of the radiator to enable removal of the plug. The next plug is a little more tricky especially now its started to rain on me. Remove the seat screws and then the side black plastic cowling. I think there are six screws on each side and one central holding them both onto the tank. Next undo the cap head screw which holds the rear of the tank to the frame beneath the seat. Using pliers, slide the two spring clips from the two breather (i think) pipes on the right hand side of the bike beneath the fuel tank. Now, underneath the tank you will see two fuel hoses, push the plastic connectors in using your fingers, give them a little wiggle and they should slide down and off the tank(be ready for fuel spillage here). Finally, snip the cable tie which secures the wiring connector onto the frame beneath the seat and unplug it. You should now be able to gently slide the fuel tank rearwards and remove it allowing clear access to the vertical plug. Please note, best to do this with an empty fuel tank to minimise spillage. Hope this helps.
