1000 2 Issues With 2005 S

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by dazm, May 3, 2015.

  1. Hi,
I've just purchased a 2005 s model multistrada. All was well on the ride home but yesterday, after filling the bike with fuel I noticed a fuel leak which started when the bike was running on the side stand. The leak is from under the seat from the black housing located thee, what is that unit?. Today I went to start the bike, ignition on, it makes all the right noises, I notice the leak start before I pressed the starter, on pressing the starter though, it turns the starter motor for a fraction of a second and then stops. Any ideas on what this is, are the two things related?. Pretty annoyed to be in this position, the guy I bought it off seemed very genuine, my good will is holding out for now but maybe not for much longer. Any help appreciated!.

    Cheers daz

  2. The fuel leak is from the fuel pump where it mounts in the tank, if it only happens with the pump running it is most likely a bad seal on the fuel hose quick disconnect fittings. If it drips when engine not running sorrow to say it's the warped tank flange! it can be fixed.

Suggest you remove the black plastic cover and have a look to see where the fuel is coming from.

The starter will stop if the battery voltage drops too much so possibly a weak battery?

  3. The black thing sounds like the fluid recovery reservoir

  6. Hi Chris,
The leak is from under the riders seat from the unit in the bottom left of the diagram you posted.

Rman the battery has been kept on an optimiser and shows good voltage,
It could still be weak I guess but it seemed absolutely fine all last weekend.
Any other ideas anyone, how can I check if the battery is good?
I'm baffled... If the tank is warped, you say it can be fixed?.

    Thanks Daz

  8. Update,
Rman, your advice was spot on, the leak whoo hoo, was from one of the quick detach fuel hoses, it just needed pushing back on a bit firmer. Thank f&&k for that, thought I was looking at a new tank unit... The bike also now starts after 30 minutes on a charger, any ideas or experience with issues with a battery optimiser? It's been on one (Oxford one) since I bought the bike last weekend.

Oh and whoever put the front fastener for the left hand side panel behind the oil lines wants shooting, give it a quarter turn it says in the manual, yeah easy if you have five year old girl hands..

Anyway, any ideas how to check the health of the battery or should I just stump up for a new one? Any deals or recommendations?

    Thanks!!!!!
