I fitted a bar end mirror and have to say I find it a success. It doesn't vibrate and it doesn't stick out too far. I haven't had chance to replace the originals, mainly because of the integrated indicators but having a mirror that doesn't just show my elbows and vibrate to a blur is very helpful.
I've put a small Oberon Streetfighter mirror on my 999 and I wouldn't be without it. It replaces the bar end weight and has the option of either attaching at the end of the bar end fitting or above it and I have chosen the latter to keep the bike narrow and it looks a lot better too. The 999 mirrors are relatively integral, so I use it to supplement the oem mirrors, not replace them.
Think I will need to take a closer look at yours Sam when you get back, might check out the Oberon website though as I fancy a set for my streetfighter too,
