899 1199 Magnesium Engine Cover Onto 899

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by smorgan46, May 6, 2015.

  1. I have just managed to find an 1199 magnesium engine cover so i can fit the clear clutch cover but someone said to me the 1199 magnesium cover and the 899 magnesium cover you can buy from ducati are different? Anyone know if this is the case?

  2. I believe 899 and 1199 casings are totally different. The casing on the 1199 is sort of a "cap" that bolts on to a cover that bolts to the crankcase but the 899 bolts directly onto the crankcase.

    I think.

  3. Straight fit ,my 899 has 1199 mag casings and mag cylinder head covers off a 1199.

  4. You have to use both parts of the casings, the inspection cover and housing from the 1199,as you said the 899 is one piece.

  8. I might sound abit thick but what are the advantages and are they that great?

  9. Only real advantage is that the clutch pack is easy to access with the mag 2 piece cover.i put a slipper clutch in mine so seemed like a good idea to change to mag set up,changed to mag cly head cover for no other reason than bling.

  11. Scrawnsenior thanks for posting those links, forgive me for being a bit stupid but can I ask you, is the clutch cable just a straight swap over and do you have to do anything other than just connect it to the casing? Oh and where did you buy the sealant and do you have to drain any of the oil out? I don't mind doing these things myself if I can so long as I know what im getting myself into.

    Thanks in advance

  12. Thanks for the answer, I thought it was a weight thing

  13. It's straight forward enough, bit of a job to get the access as you have to take the rear set bracket off, exhaust and all the electrics up top need moving out of the way. The clutch slave is on the other side, the oil hose is just a straight swap over. I dropped the oil when I did the actual cover but once it's on then as long as the bike is on a stand you can take the outer cover off to get to the clutch without draining the oil. Very handy.

My water pump sprocket slotted off when I took the old cover off so make sure the shaft and bushing go back on in the right order if yours does that.

I bought the sealant from Riders in Cardiff over the counter, the black stuff. It's not cheap at 24 quid a tube but it'll last a while. Just make sure you clean all the old stuff off and go around the bolt holes when you put the fresh sealant on. I'll need it when I take the sump off at the next oil change to clean the strainer that's in there.

    Any more questions fire away.

  15. As a mean old git, I think I'd just buy a rattle-tin of paint and achieve 90% of the effect for 10% of the price.

  16. You cant be that mean or you would have had the base over the tric, unless it a base painted as a tric ;)
