Fellow Ducatistas, I've been looking for a carbon hugger for my 1999 900SS IE for a while but no joy. Have tried looking online and fleabay. If you have one where did you get yours or can you point me in the right direction? Ta awfully
carby ss rear hugger is the same item I believe as the ie model Rear Hugger II Ducati 750/900 SS 94-98 Carbon Ilmberger mudguard fender | eBay
Thanks johnboy, I thought they were different, longer wheelbase and whatnot? I've sent the seller a question asking, so let's see. Cheers.
okay I have just checked stein dinse site looked up the part number 1999 ie rear hugger its the same as 1992 rear hugger 56510111a ah hold on just realised checked for 750 carby 900 is the same but 1999 ie number is 56510111b the hugger in my 750 ie is off carby 600 and fits spot on so not sure what the difference is maybe width ?
Probably just width, they did put a wider rear tyre on the 900SS IE than on the carby. Hmmm. There must be one out there somewhere! I'll try doing some searches with the part number, cheers for that.
Hi General Piffle, This is probably no use to you, or me just saying yah boo sucks, but I've got one on my 2002 900ssie. It was bought off Fleabay about 5 years ago. If you want I can do measurements for you so you can check fitment if you manage to find one. I think the one I bought had been fitted to a 900ssie so it was a no-brainer. Tempted to sell the bike soon so I'll bear you in mind as I'll probably take off the carbon bits etc.
carbon hugger is slightly wider on the SS over stock plastic. If you wanted to fit the 5.5" wheel and 180 tyre on the carby you needed the carbon hugger to avoid potential rubbing issues, even then it's still tight.
Thanks Sev but I'm looking for an IE not a carby. Still no joy, surprised to be honest, would have thought it would have been quite a popular upgrade.
I'll look through the ducati peformance catalogue for the ie for you tonight and see if there is a part number for a carbon hugger. Ducati may still be able to royally have your pants down if they have stock.

What type of swing a have you got on the bike ? I've swapped huggers over from IE's to carby's with no problems, both had the alloy swing arms though... The only difference I ever came across was with the later 900 IE (02 onward) with the curvy swing arm, the two top lugs are in a slightly different position but it's not hard to alter them on a carbon hugger.
Aren't the rear tyre widths different between the carby and the IE? Mine's a 1999 model, not sure what swing arm I have and bike is in storage so can't check but here's a couple of pics if you can tell:
No, the standard size tyre for both bikes was always 170/60 x 17, many people fitted 180's as they're more readily available. Different makes of tyres do vary in width too so it's pot luck if it fitted in the standard hugger. The carbon huggers are a little wider so having a 180 shouldn't be an issue, personally I prefer a 170 rear as it helps with the steering... Looking at your swingarm it's the same alloy one that's fitted to the '93 onwards carby SS's so a carbon hugger for a Superlight/Carby SS will fit
