For those looking at the base model DVT 1200, I've been working through the million-page user manual and confirmed that, by purchasing and connecting a "bluetooth control unit" you can get the same functionality as the S model i.e. ability to use the left handlebar buttons to skip music tracks, answer calls, pair helmets to the bike etc. This is a feature I'd really like, but dont want to pay a few extra £000 for the S model just to get it. From the manual amongst the 326,000 pages of dashboard instructions: "Bluetooth device setting. This function can be activated only if the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) and the Bluetooth control unit are available: for this model the Bluetooth control unit can be purchased at a Ducati Dealer or Authorized Service Center." ...and... "Infotainment Multistrada 1200 can fit the Ducati Multimedia System (DMS) only when the Bluetooth control unit is available; thanks to the DMS system the user can answer phone calls, select and listen to music tracks, and receive SMS notifications by means of the Bluetooth technology. In this model, the Bluetooth control unit can be purchased by a Ducati Dealer or Authorized Service Center. The instrument panel displays the Infotainment function status: Bluetooth activation and any connected devices (smartphone, earphones, navigator)." What's not clear is what "Multistrada 1200 can fit the Ducati Multimedia System" means. Does it mean that you need to buy a DMS as well as the bluetooth control unit, or is it already built into the dash and all you need is the control unit? I suspect the latter. I've asked my dealer about this, and the price & availability. Note that if you go to the Ducati web page for downloading owners manuals (Ducati Maintenance that if you go select 2015, Multistrada, 1200, United Kingdom, you'll get the 1200S user manual which is useless for the 1200 dashboard. Instead, select United States and at least you'll get the 1200 dash functionality, though you have to wade through 48,000 pages of legalistic nonsense.
My dealer (Hyside) also told me this could be added to base model. The colour screen is nice, but my Sena SMH10 linked to google now can do all this without pressing a button. So it would have to be well priced (no chance of that!). Cheers.
While riding and looking out for pedestrians, cars pulling out of side roads, mega ton HGV's and every other danger that bikers face it will be really useful to be able to skip a music track or receive a text while SHMBO is talking in my ear.
This subject was in my previous posts. By the way in the owners manual there is bluetooth connection option explained for standard version too. I did not find it my dash. It might be some extra feature you can buy. Ducati Multimediasystem : partnumber 96680521A (180.29 euro) -- "The management menu of the bluetooth peripheral units is only available in the toruing and urban modes. In case of acive bluetooth communication it will not be possible to change the riding mode!! "
Ducati Paris have this on their web site for €179: Ducati Multimedia System Multistrada - Multistrada/Multistrada 1200S ABS 2015 - Ducatiparis.com Ducati Multimedia System Multistrada Réf : 96680521A I don't think this is the Bluetooth Module. Or maybe it is. Who knows? Ah - it says "Système Infotainment pour la connexion de smartphones, systèmes GPS Ducati, dispositifs Headset Ducati pour pilote et passager à l'aide de Bluetooth." Which Google says is this: "Infotainment system for connecting smartphones , GPS systems Ducati , Ducati Headset features for driver and passenger using Bluetooth." So maybe this thing has the Bluetooth Controller Unit built into it? Or it is the Bluetooth Controller Unit by another name.
Headsets and Bluetooth. We've lived without them for years and we're ok. But same can be said for satnavs. It does open up a new dimension for riding; particularly in groups. I agree the phone function isn't usually needed. I usually get calls from work when on holiday. Its more the hub function which may be useful. Have to try it out to know for sure. Something like the Sena 20S opens up more functionalities but also its own contradictions with multiple devices. I'll post my experience when I get it. Sometimes a good headset is all you need.
I've found that, on long tours especially, music while riding is excellent. If I'm not on my own I'll usually be linked to other riders by radio, but all the old-style Autocom stuff looks out of favour so Bluetooth looks to be the way to go. And if my wife rings I can see it's her and answer. If anyone else rings they can stuff it! At least I can decide what to do without having to stop and look at my phone.
Exactly. I have a friend who has an elderly and sick mother and she can suddenly get admitted or have issues in the hospital which they need to get in touch with him. And you all know what a nightmare it is trying to phone back! Being able to answer the phone through a headset actually brings him piece of mind. He can always pull over and have a safe conversation. I hardly speak on the phone as its too noisy anyway. But is useful to know if its urgent, I can just pull over and speak. If you lack self-control and responsibility and judge risk accordingly, then should you even be on two-wheels, BT or not?
Do people remember years back when nobody had mobile phones ...... We all got by didnt we , I know some folk have reasons to be contacted but from my own point of view when I go out on the bike I don't want any meither , I go out on the bike to get away from ball busting meitherers , ba Jesus !! imagine going round some bend at some lick and some nobshaft bleating on about PPI in your ear hole , sling your hook !! Rant over
Mmm... all sounds super, but I'll stick to my Scala G9 and have satnav a phone and my mp3 all controlled by voice command and still be able to talk to 9 other headsets with in a mile range, cost my £260 for a paired set.
I've just spent £35 on a BT headset off evilbay. I'll live with that for now Wont make the bike lower tho...
I wrote the partnumber down a few weeks ago. It's a small Module they have to connect in the IMU. Same functions as the 1200S. When you connect your phone and use the Multistrada app, you get all the info about your last trip (max speed, average speed, km/miles, distance, max angle,....). I thought to order it but I will wait till I have a few reviews from my friends with their 1200S.
JC, can you explain this set up to me please. And is the voice command any good on this device, as the voice command on my iphone 3 is shit, ask it to phone a contact and it calls whoever takes it's fancy ?
Yes I just say something to wake it up usually HELLO! then call wife or music, or radio and it does it simples, or if some one calls I just say HELLO! and Answer. the noise cancelling is brilliant, people don't even know I'm riding my bike and I have a MIVV exhaust on.
While I have the bride on the back its all about listening to the V twin roaring away. A dig in the ribs means slow down and a straight arm over my shoulder means drop a gear and get going simples keep ya blue tooth,
There is a caveat with Android phones. If you have it encrypted to MS Exchange protocol, it will not unlock by voice command.
