I've just picked up an ST4S with a bit of a fault, not to fussed as it'll be broken for parts if I can get it fixed. Symptoms were no spark caused by a loom fault, I could see where the repairs had been attempted so swapped out the front loom for a spare I have. Post swap I now have upon attempting to start a single spark then none from both pots. I have changed both the coils and the leads and was curious if anyone had any ideas on what to check next? Thanks
The sensor in the link is the early type with two fixing screws. The 4S uses the later single bolt fixing. they are available elsewhere, but make sure you get the right mounting depth and pole number correct. Some come without the earth sheathing and are two pole.
Hadn't noticed the eBay item was the two bolt type, which is wrong. But it's OK as I do have a spare to try if the old one comes out as they can be a bit of a pig at times.
Oh well, pick up (gap checked) changed after removing water pump (I'd forgotten about that) but still the same fault, just a single spark and no more. Weird?
Is the spark front or rear? If it's just the front, could still be the pick up as the trigger signal for the front TDC is stronger than the "count" to for the rear pot. Try swapping out the ignition relay to.
It's doing it on both pots, a single spark then nowt. Will try the relay though. Now I've finished for the day and the 888 is in the car park, I'm off!!
