Monster 821 Cutting Out

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by daniel wright, Apr 11, 2015.

  1. hi. i have a Monster 821 2014 which has developed a fault were it will randomly cuts out when riding. if left for a minute or so then restart it will start and run fine. has done it twice in the last week now. it has been to a dealer but they could not find a fault with it. anyone had this or similar problem?

Have got a video of what it does here.

  2. Both times when raining?

If so, could be an electrical short. Usual suspects are relays. Bike probably dries out by the time the dealer sees it.

  3. no this is first time it has happened in rain. all other times have been warm and sunny. the dealer said it may have been cabeling to tail tidy that was shorting so they have re fitted it but still same problem.

  4. Guys on the forum have had similar due to loose battery cables

  5. My wife's bike has the same problem but no engine management light comes on. Dealer looking at this week. She says it feels like some has hit the kill switch. Dash stays on but no revs reading on the dash. Once she has stopped and restarted all OK happen to about 4 times now. Getting frustrated as we are bothe getting to know the road to the dealer really well, Huurrrummph

    Cheers Andy

  7. I’ve got the same issue. Had nothing but trouble with my 821 so currently shopping around for a new bike.

  8. I believe that there was a software upgrade that sorted this issue, but if you took it to a Ducati dealer I would have thought they’d have checked it had the latest version?

  9. My local Ducati has been great to be fair but this bike has been one thing after another. Every ride seems to have a different problem. This is the final straw though - it happened on the fast lane on the motorway passing a slip road so had to get across several lanes to get to safety.

I’ll pop into Ducati and ask about the software - thanks for the tip! I’m trying to hold off until the new registration for some deals for my next bike. This one has almost put me off riding.
