Thought i would just offer a quick summary of my trip around the highlands : Day one was all about heading North, A1 upto Scottish Corner, then a short section on A66, then up through Barnard castle up and across Alston Moor, this was a stunning road and well worth a re-visit, after a re-fuel in Longtown onto another Gem of a road B7076 basically follows the M6 North, but is much more interesting, we followed this as far north as we could before eventually getting on to Mway to navigate through Glasgow. On to Loch Lomond, roads were pretty busy even on a monday but were nice, another re-fuel at Tyndrum then onto Fort William, by this time it was raining and not what you want at the end of a 370 mile day ! Day Two, Sunshine !, out of Fort William Applecross bound, really amazing roads and scenery A82 to Invergarry then A87 all along the coast, by the time we get to Applecross it is windy and starting to rain, not the best way to go across the pass but had to be done, Multi into enduro mode for the first time in its life and off up the hairpins and 1 in 5 hills to the end to the pub for a well earned rest. Did not go back over the pass instead took coastal road back and then headed across for inverness, again the roads A896 & A832, and were back in the sunshine all the way to Inverness. Day three, out of inverness starting journey south, wish could have had more time to venture north but have to save for another time, headed for Nairn to pick up A939 to Ballater, this road is stunning and onto A93, this again is an amazing road passing all of the ski lifts and snow machines parked up, shows what a double life this place has but in the sunshine on empty twisty roads suits me fine ! Through Blairgowery and into Perth, then onto Mway for trek into Edinburgh, which we hit at Rush hour. Day four, Sad day as final day, but route was along one of my fav roads A7 all the way down to Carlisle, although wind spoiled it a bit, onto A6 over Shap, then onto A65 at Kendal heading for A1 and home. 1098 miles in 4 days, 3 1/4 of them in brillant sunshine, for those that live up their you are one lucky guys !
Glad you had a good trip Nick and the bike performed well The best biking in the world if only the weather was a bit more predictable.
Nice, concise summary of what sounds like a great trip! Pleased to hear you had a good time. Chris and Nicky
Thanks folks, yes it was one of the best tours i have planned and done in a few years, just a shame could not get enough time to get a bit further North
Great roads. North of Ullapool it is another world though, a good reason to go back. When you get the weather it really is a stunning place to visit. I forgot to mention the B7076 which is infinitely better than the motorway it parallels and very quiet. Glad you managed to take in the Bealach na Ba. Sounds like you passed within 1/2 mile of my house, I didn't see you though.
