1200 DVT Starting Dvt With Red Passive Key.

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Pete1950, May 27, 2015.

  1. Failing the active transponder key, a Multi can be started using the passive red key. It has to be placed very close to the pick-up, like 15 mm. On the 2010-14 Multi the pick-up ring is situated behind the dashboard, so that's where you have to put the red key.

On the 2015 DVT, having left the main key in the hotel I tried to key-on using the red key. No joy. Later I discovered that the pick-up ring is no longer behind the dashboard; it's behind the right side panel. You have to place the red key to the right of the dashboard - then it works fine.

  2. I am going to miss that RHS panel where you can leave a CC card and Toll tickets when abroad, only time I use it is when I go abroad, but it is so handy then, I suppose if you have a tank bag, never a lover of those though.

  3. Tank bag is cool. Does foul the satnav if you mount it on the centre console though. But minor inconvenice.

Best accessory I've got so far!

  4. And I like the Centre Console mounted sat nav :(

  5. I use the ram ball mount. Use the top left screw, then extend the arm up and out. Make sure you have enough slack on the cable. I might get a longer arm actually.

  6. I was sure that you had a pin-code for starting the 2015-bike if you lost the key/mis-placed it!?

  7. You can. But you can't lock it.

  8. Hi didn't know that's what the red key was for anyway until Pete tried to use it. I use that little cubbyhole for Assidt card and storing my ultimate addon charge leads. Will be a pain to lose them.

  9. Good point. Again, I tried the black button hoping to use the PIN, but it didn't work. I must be doing something wrongly, but I haven't worked out what yet.

  10. I assume Peter you have set the pin in the first place

  11. Just remember that if you start with the pin code and don't have an auto fuel cap - you can ride it but you can't fill it!
Advice to me (no auto cap) was to have a blank key (non-transponder) cut and hide on the bike somewhere.

  12. I use a cut key, but I leave transponder in pocket well tucked away, and just use the cut key for every day use like top box, seat, filler etc.

  13. There is that Allen key in the tool kit....

  14. Isn't there a bolt under the filler flap ;)

  15. Don't you need a key to get the allen key out of the toolkit :p

  16. Yes, I set it on delivery, now 12 days ago.

  17. It would be helpful if the central locking included (in addition to the ignition, fuel filler, and steering lock) the seat and luggage. Oh well, maybe the next edition.

  18. SShhh!!!
