1200 Multistrada Purchase

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by garyl, Apr 27, 2015.

  1. Hi. I am looking to buy a 2010 multistrada but the seller tells me that when he had a 16000 mile service done a warning light stayed on and although it had everything done which was required during the service he can not get the light removed. anyone ever heard of this or should I just stay clear of it. Also it seems to be about 2000 pound cheaper than any others of the same year mileage and condition. Any thoughts. Cheers garyl.

  2. Which warning light and what does the manual say about it ?

I would resolve it satisfactorily or walk away.

  3. Just a wild guess, but did he get the service done at an independent bike shop, and they did not have the tools to put the service warning message out? Jon.

  4.
  5. The service warning is not a "light", it comes on in the round LCD display.

  6. Simple, walk away. I think there will be plenty of similar bikes on the market soon.

  7. I will be speaking to the seller again tomorrow to get some more info and I will be able to shed more light on it then. I have asked you the question too soon with only half the info I need to give to you. However the answers you have given me so far give me more questions that I can ask him.Cheers.

  8. Thanks johnv, I am aware of that, (especially as mine is showing at the moment), but it could still be referred to by a seller as a warning light? (A warning that lights up). That is why it was a wild guess. Hopefully the op will come back with some more info. Jon.

  9. Perhaps he got the service done slightly early?

That happened at my 7500 mile service: the dealer had done the necessary reset, but the service countdown didn't go away until the mileage had ticked over.

  10. It seems that Jon {nutts mutts} gets the prize for being the closest about the warning light .He didn't have the service done at a dealer and is taking the bike into a dealer to get the light taken off. I now know that the bike is a basic model without the Ohlinns suspension. That may account for the big difference in price. Is the multi without Ohlinns worth buying or is it just another adventure bike with a big ego.

  11. Opinions about the fancy suspension are probably best described as "mixed". Many feel it adds little benefit and is just something else to go wrong that can't be fixed by anybody except a Ducati dealer.

I've got a standard 2014. It's a hoot, and I don't think I miss much by not having the fancy suspension.

  12. I doubt that many people have tried both (apart from MCN and the like). I have the Ohlins and plan on adding the mechatronic SCU. As it is I do adjust it all the time for different conditions and loads. Makes a difference. Some people do just ride solo and will therefore leave it alone. They should probably have got the standard.

  13. A remote preload adjuster is sophisticated enough for me; everything else is taken care of by the big nut behind the bars.

  15. Save your cash and plump for something younger if your worrried or buy Mark Pulling's off him so he can get a new one.
