Monster 696 6500mi New did chain and JT sprockets at 5000mi. My chain goes very slack very quickly and can't see why. Just been to garage who have tensioned it correctly and after at 12 mile trip home it's completely slack. Anyone know what this could be?
Don't worry it's something obvious you are missing in your checking procedure on your monster unless A/chain is an inferior cheaply made copy B/you are ragging the bike constantly within an inch of it's life. The only realistic way ( regardless of what it says on any little sticker on the swing arm) to check chain slack is to assess it on its wheels with the rider sitting on the seat, if you check for slack when it's on it's stand with no rider on the chain will appear to have excessive slack in it. Must add to this that this is not the case for all motorcycles. am also assuming that rear axle and adjusters are tightened and adjusted correctly.
yip cheep chain. my old peg did this after paying for the best to be fitted, turned out not to be the best. was addgusting it daily. after a long run it would start taking chunks out the tyre there was that much side play.
I can get a little spirited when I ride but for the most part it's commuting so nothing excessive. It's not that bad when I sit on the bike to be fair about an inch of play. I just hope I don't have to replace it!!
