Hi guys I want to upgrade the front brakes on my 899 I've tried pads and altough better there still not great on the track, I was thinking either a master cylinder change or calipers, anyone else tried anything like this?
Can you put 1199 ones on there? The brakes on the 1199s are stupendously good. I've got race pads in there now so they are not very suited to the road as they need warming up but on track they are just comedy good.
I am sure I read somewhere that they fit no problem but you need to fit the calipers and the master cylinder or the brakes will be crap if you use the 899 master cylinder. Something about the ratio's
Done abit of research, they do fit but you need 1199 brake lines etc and the abs pump can give issues when fitted
That would make sense, the master cylinder and ABS pistons will be different sizes if the calipers are different.
Out of interest what pads did you try as im due a new set. Im currently tossing up between Brembo SC and SBS 900RS.
Umm to be honest I need to find out myself!! I got them from the guy doing tyres on the nolimits track weekend in Jerez. I need to call and find out what they are. You have to be careful you do not ride away without warming them as they are useless when cold and I nearly ended up in the back of a car the first time on the road. At normal road temperatures they are probably not as good as stock pads but once you start going quick and they get hot they are incredible.
899 challange use standard calipers and mastercylinders as far as I am aware, why not find out what pads they use.
Correct. I'm using EBC race pads and they are good to go (or stop as the case may be). Come with the usual "not for highway use" caveat. Not had a problem yet with the OEM set up. Must try harder. That said my ABS pump is disconnected and HEL braided lines run straight from the Master to the calipers.
I went with some Brembo SC pads due to eBay doing 20% off BIN yeseterday. Some of the 899 racers are using Brembo Z04s - Brembo Z04 Review -
I'm just looking for a bit more feel and bite and no fading which I get on the road when it's really warm!
If you look at the MCN review at the bottom of the page there's info about air being drawn into the callipers fitted to the 899 and a reported solution... I was surprised a bike 7 years newer didn't have brakes as good as my 2007 RSV Factory... Ducati 899 Panigale: long term test report | MCN
I've read that before and it doesn't add up. If air was able to leak in the bleed nipples then under braking fluid would leak out in tiny amounts. I checked under the rubber covers and there is no sign of fluid at all.
