Yesterday after pushing my 998 Bayliss back into the garage (after it failed to start) there was a loud crack and the LHS clip-on mount to the fork leg broke into 2 pieces. Eeek – very pleased it didn’t happen on the road under heavy breaking. I managed to get fast by Ferracci 53mm race clip on ring from ebay today, they look a bit different from the original rough cast items which have broken. I hope the bar position is the same. Anyone know what the standard angle is on the 998? I found some nice Ducati 899 Panigale CNC machined Clip-Ons but wasnt sure if they would clear the air tubes as they had a 9.8 degree angle. As to the non-starting, the Meta alarm appears to be completely non-functioning. The main 40amp fuse and the smaller fuses in the block are OK, lights, horn, indicators and warning lights all function, but there is no telltale fuel pump noise and the starter doesnt turn over. Is there normally a fuse in the feed to the alarm?
I used to have trouble with the fuses in my old SS not contacting properly, even though they were intact. It's worth replacing all your relays, as these are like mini solenoids and can suffer from internal corrosion making them stick and seize. They are dead cheap, just take them to your local motor factor and get like for like. When you press the starter button, do the warning lights go out? If so, it's almost certainly dirty, corroded battery terminals.
Thanks for the responses. 130euro to remove the Alarm, however I found a adapter that allows the old type Meta connection block to plug straight into the new design Meta alarm, so £145 pounds has solved the problem and I have a new Cat 1 alarm. The bike starts and runs perfectly.
