Garage Flooring

  1. Yep I just checked myself. I have the original sales receipt for the paint and it was actually a 20 litre barrel and it was £50. Miles cheaper than the £200 I spent on "floor paint" from b&q when I did the garage at the old house - and that was rubbish.

I remember at the time, toolstation did a variety of colours including red but it looks like they have reduced stock now to the smaller tins. If I get time tonight i will see if i can find my barrel and see if its got any company name etc... they might still sell the stuff somewhere.

Quick look on ebay shows sellers selling 20litre barrels of stuff in a variety of colours, for cheap prices - but might well be coloured water for all we know.

  2. fine. Mine looks pretty good tbh, although its not car use. Just springs back. even after the multi on centre stand for 8 weeks, the foam didn't tear and it mostly recovered

  3. may be worth adding my floor wasn't in the greatest condition and was breaking up in parts, so not like painting a nicely screeded and smooth surface

I have no issues pulling my large toolbox around or the old office chair on wheels I had either, in fact its was easier than it was with the old floor (for the above reasons)

  4. Floor tiles would mean I wouldn't need to empty the garage for 3 days either.

  5. That is very tidy and looks good. I do have to ask though...his and hers tool chests?

  6. Takes a real man to pull off a pink tool box.

  7. Just an old red one that used to live outside for 5-6 years in our old house, so got very faded. Still works but a bit crap. Looking to replace it over winter with a KTM orange one for the mid section :)

    Some more pics..

Also some pics of it 2 weeks earlier... paint... meh...

  8. When you painted did you use Epoxy or polyurethane?

  9. I used generic Screwfix floor paint. Because we bought the house in March, it was too cold for the Epoxy, so I did have some epoxy purchased but ended up giving that to a mate instead.

It's only £16 for a tin and covered the floor completely. However.. It still shows up mess WAY more than carpet, is still cold and with 'drying' time it took 3 days all in. Using carpet tiles it took me about 4 hours start to finish with nothing more than a straight edge and a Stanley knife.

I can't put into words how much better tiles are than paint... it's night and day.

  10. If I don't paint first though to seal won't I still get some dust coming through?

  11. I can't see how... but by the same score, I can't see painting would do any harm either.

  12. I could just put down some watered down PVA glue, that should cut the dust down.

  13. Just picked up another 'set' in a lighter colour.

    £40 for 200 tiles ! Jeez, that's nearly 4 garages worth !
I've split it 50-50 with my boss as he wants to do his. So i'll try the new ones and possibly flog the blue ones, or i'll flog my half on and be happy with the £20 i'll easily get for that pile :)

  14. a wee boring yet useful tip. go bright save on lecky.

  15. Use both colours, do a checker board pattern :upyeah:.

  16. I'll see how that looks. As the middle ones are not glued that should only take 15 mins. But I more fancy a dark border and an inside of lighter...

Pick them up in a couple of hours :)

  17. Sadly the new tiles are slightly different thickness so don't quite look right.

I've now got 105 or so tiles sitting on the garage floor hahaha.

  18. are they 50x50 or 60x60?

  19. 50x50 which seems to be pretty generic.
