1200 New Angel Gt Time

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by jcmental, Jul 13, 2015.

  1. Time to fit some new boots to my baby. I'm sticking with Angel GT but I'm confused witch ones to order some have a prefix after their size and speed rating of either A or D.
I read a few months ago in MCN that if you do a lot of touring to get ones with an A prefix but looking into it some sites say for touring pick the D prefix?

Can any one shed some light on my problem please.

    Pirelli ANGEL GT 190/55Z R17 75 W Rear TL M/C D
    or
    Pirelli ANGEL GT 190/55Z R17 75 W Rear TL M/C A
    or
    Pirelli ANGEL ST 190/55Z R17 75 W Rear TL M/C

  2. For my 2pence worth I,have just put on Michelin PR4 s, I hated the PR3 but every one was raving about these, and they are a vast improvement on the 3s,I had a angels,on before, and these are much better, imho.

  3. The D prefix is specific to the Multistrada and I'm sure I read somewhere has a compound mix able to handle the power and still last. The A is not recommend as it's for heavy touring bikes and the Multi isn't really heavy compared to the true tourers.

From Pirelli's site the A spec has a 2-ply carcass for stiffness.

  4. Ok thanks , pair of A's on order.

  5. Just had a rear gt put on at Ducati Cov with the D prefix which has been mention already ,wasn't asked about the A rated one .

  6. Just up to 4k miles on the PR4's (GT), about 2.5k motorway plus 1.5k heavy action twisties and I cannot believe how good these tyres are, they look, wear wise, like previous Scorpions and Roadsmart tyres have done at 1k miles? I can well believe these will manage 6-7k before they need replacing?

  7. what are pr4's i need new tyres on mine and want something longer wearing /

  8. Michelin Pilot Road 4's. There are 3 models, Standard, Trail and GT. You want the GT's for longevity as they have a stiffer carcass and a 20% centre strip made from a hard compound. They are supposed to be for big heavier cruisers (motorway bikes), but I have found them to have fantastic levels of peg scraping grip on mountain passes and Black forest roads - I really can't fault them.

  9. The standard PR4 copes very well with the MTS ,it is a relatively light bike after all. If I get 6/7000 miles from the rear I would be extatic, but I normally get new ones when the handling starts to go off anyway.

  10. You are probably right, I think the Standard may also have the 20% hard centre section, but the Trail (which my pal has on his GS) certainly don't, so I doubt his rear will last long?

  11. Not sure how much touring you do 2 up with full luggage, but the Angel GT have been brilliant, and give me a lot of confidence through the twisty's and on the long motorway runs. I cant think of one time they have let me down and believe me I ask a lot from my tyres. I don't see the point in changing to a different brand or type just because someone else likes them, I'm on my 4th rear due to a puncture and second front, I've done 13000 miles now and probs about 9000 of them 2 touring.
    Their worth every penny.

  12. My touring always solo with not more tha 10k luggage. Angel a very good tyre too,but I find the PR4 a more involving ride offering more feedback. But both great tyres, and both offer very long life.

  13. I've had both the PR4 and the Angel GT on mine. If i am honest the PR4s took some getting used to after the Angels. I didn't think they turned as smoothly and were more abrupt in the corners but I cannot fault the wet weather performance or indeed the wear. Mine have done just over 5000 miles now and though the rear has squared off, mainly to doing two big Euro tours with many motorway miles, there is still at least another 1000 miles of wear in them and possibly more.

  14. I've had both tyre and found both to be excellent tyres for my riding. I got 9000 out of 2 D spec Angel GTs and would have got them again if there hadn't been a deal on the PR4. The profile of the rear is very different, the PR4's are much more rounded.

  16. I really quite liked the scorpions, I found they were very sticky and comfortable, superb grip.

  20. Was out with the wife last year, we went on one of our lets see where we end up, I got a rear puncture literally miles from anywhere up a lane in the lake district, I tried to fix it with a repair kit that came with the bike, but it dint work. we had to ride for miles on an almost flat tyre, we eventually found a garage and put some tyre weld in but that didn't work either, so the only choice we had was to set the sat nave and ride to every petrol station on the route home and put as much air in as we could to get to the next one.
