1200 ? Time For A Change-what About A Diavel

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by spanish, Jul 14, 2015.

  1. Coming up to 5 years ownership of a Multi and have loved it. Europe touring at once a year and local outings in between.

Have had a hankering for the Diavel since they appeared and wonder if anyone has experience of the Diavel and the Multi. Just some concern that I wil miss the versatility of the Multi if I bite the bullet.

  2. I met 2 guys at a local bike meet earlier this year, they both had Divs and had swapped from 2010 mutlys. they loved them. not my cup of tea though I prefer to see over the traffic.

  3. I took my 2014 MTS for its first annual service today, whilst there i took the opportunity to try the DVT & the Diavel.

I was surprised just how much better the DVT was, the only negative thing i could think to say was they have removed the useless "glove" box in the fairing.

I didn't take the Diavel on the same route, but 70 mph feels like a 100 feels on the MTS. If you want to ride relatively short distances the Diavel would be a good second bike.

  4. Went from a Multi to a Diavel to a Multi coz I missed the versatility however I thought the Diavel was excellent and the handling is the biggest surprise. Plus the noise from that full Termi....gorgeous

  5. Think the biggest downside to a Diavel if you do the miles is the running costs of servicing and rear tyres, but everyone seems to love them, I certainly have been tempted to have both

  6. New Diavel tyres front n rear every 1900 miles on mine :(

  7. Enjoyed the test ride I had on a Diavel, loved the noise, enjoyed the fact I could get both feet flat on the floor, enjoyed the handling, which surprised me, enjoyed the stomp, but I didn't enjoy the look of the thing, but there you go, each to their own.

  8. I had the same thought, sold my multi last year after 3 years abd planned to buy a Diavel this year but when it came down to it i decided to go with a DVT just because i loved the last one so much.
I have a gut feeling that there will be a new model Diavel and 899 next year.

  9. I also seriously considered a Diavel but went with the DVT Multistrada because it just felt so much better, but who knows, next year might bring a Diavel with the DVT engine and skyhook :)

  10. I tried the Diavel but hated the riding position. The seat is over the rear tire so you bounce about much more. found I could go a lot quicker on the multi on the same roads.

  11. I think the biggest cost would be changing all my riding gear to leather with tassles.

  12. I agree. Horses for courses. I had the same discussion with myself and decided to put off changing to a Diavel until if hung up my touring boots.

I did 3,500 miles round France and Italy in ten days last year on my MTS and couldn't imagine doing that on a Diavel.

  13. Bloody hell! What brand are you using?

    Original Scorpions 3,000;
    PR4s 8,000-plus on my MTS!

1900 miles is Pirelli Phantom mileage (for those of you that remember them) and they were made of chewing gum!

  14. Im looking forward to getting PR4s on my MTS, Id like them on my F800GS as well, but they don't do the sizes

  15. Great dual-compound tyres. Very confidence-inspiring in the wet too.

  16. The standard Pirelli Rosso II's, just heavy handed with the throttle I guess.

  17. You must go through s few chains as well then.

  18. Not anymore, back on a Multi :)

  19. The main reason some riders feel that the handling is soft is that the Marzocci fork preload is set to zero at the factory and the rear unit is made by Sachs. Most common upgrade is to put Ohlins front and back which reportedly transforms the handling. Front tyres wear quickly because the steering rake causes the front to be pushed in bends. Any spirited riding will reduce the life of the tyre. However that all said, my girlfriend happily tracked her Diavel at Cartagena last year and was not the slowest rider by a long way. We also did Le Mans via Calais without any issues doing over 1000 miles in the long weekend. She used to ride and loved her injected R6 (and my carburetted R6 for that matter) but wouldn't swap her Diavel for anything. She'd like an R1 and a Blade but that's as well as not instead of.
