Well I've been out on the 1199 s today got home changed suspension from P back to F went to take it out to try it and it won't start. Turn key on dash is normal no faults showing. Press start button and dash flashes up unknown device. Any ideas anyone ?
I'd only just got back from a 90 mile ride when I changed the suspension was only an hours work can't see battery going flat that quick. It's on an optimate I'll try it tomorrow when I get home from work tomorrow
The "unknown device" message on the dash suggests that the bike's on-board computer thinks you've replaced the standard suspension with a cheap knock-off. But that cannot be right!
If you had just been out for a 90mile ride Vince, assuming that all charging business was o.k, then the battery should have been fully charged before you started your suspension change. So, if it was flat, or nearly flat after your work then some discharge must of occured as a consequence. You havn't trapped any wires have you, or put anything back incorrectly? Sounds to me that unless you get to the bottom of why the battery suffered a discharge the same problem might manifest again, and possibly leave you stranded !
No no, not broke, but hell what is that dash message all about why couldn't it just say low voltage rather than unknown device FFS
John, nothing wrong with bike or charging and no trapped wires either. It is fitted with a tracker whenever I work on the bike I have to keep ignition on or I get loads of movement alerts and then they ring me to make sure everything is ok. I didnt realise it would drain the battery so quickly it was only on for an hour.
If the battery was flattened in 1 hour, that means there was a significant drain. I can't see that the ecu etc being responsible for that amount of drain in 1 hour. I assume there are no sidelights on? I'm wondering if one of the suspension electrical servos was active , and trying to do something, like maintain a position whilst you were working on the suspension?
Vince, was your headlight on the whole time? You always have your headlight on at inappropriate times.
Errrr when the ignition is turned on the front and rear lights come on hence the significant drain in power.
You should have gotten an early 999. The headlight only comes on when you switch it on ... plus the suspension works
If the headlight was on for I hour that would possibly explain the drain. I don't know if you have l.e.d lights on the 1199. If you had a 50w headlight lamp on for 1 hour that would be a approx' 4 amp current flowing for 1 hour, factor in the ecu powered up & the tracker etc and you can see what would happen to a 12 amp hour battery!
Ha ha funny guy But setting now changed to F so when I get 5 minutes I will get out for a blast to see whats what.
