996 Termi Fitting

  1. So, another 10 minute job that isn't!

Is there a specific way these should line up? Left over right, right over left, interlocking? I had them all bolted up but the right can looking at the picture was pushing the number plate holder down and the whole back end went squiffy.

  2. mine are interlocking mate... right one first at the top, then so on.

  3. When I try that the right can drops and pushes the right side of the number plate down.

    Should there be any spacers?

Are the straps all the same? I'm using the ones off my 50mm road pipes.

  4. are the cans the same size ? OD?

  5. I measured them roughly with a bit of string and if not they are very close.

  6. I just stuck a bolt through them and bolted them together, using normal road can straps which are the same as what you are using by the looks of it. I had to wiggle and adjust the cans & interconnecting pipe a bit in order for the straps to be able to bolt to the seat subframe, but they all fitted really well.

Im using an R&G after market tail tidy though but did notice that the cans do sit slightly closer to it than my previous ones.

  8. As said, the main under seat straps will be the same and are pretty accommodating anyway. If you intend to fit as manufacturer intended, just swivel the pipes (if poss) until they look symmetrical/right from behind and fit rear clamp bolt accordingly. Those rear straps are not termi unless four rivets are missing. should've bought mine they would've fitted like a dream ;)

  9. The left can normally fits on top of the right, or at least that is the way I set every bike I work on up. The cans are quite "adjustable" at the first connection down from the pipes and if they don't fit the way you want then you can manipulate them and then make sure the springs hold them in place.

You can always twist the cans in the support straps a little and then fit them against the subframe connections.

It can be a bit fiddly but I have not had a problem on any of the bikes I have worked on but some do require a lot of leverage to get them in place including slacking off the link pipe to get the alignment. Cans and pipes do vary quite a bit.

  10. Cheers guys. Loosened everything off and started at the back and worked forward. Had to be a little ingenious. Something is not quite right. But it looks right. Just been out for 1 1/2hrs. 50mm pipes are not subtle
