Hi, now I'm getting to know my multi a bit better I'm getting to the point where tweaking the setup might improve the ride. To be honest I haven't touched it bar a few clicks on the rear preload since I got it so, I was wondering, are there any other 14.5 stone 6'2" riders out there with a decent setup that I could pinch. I only use it for one up ride outs so I would err on the side of a sporty setup rather than a soggy setup for touring. Im finding the front getting a bit vague at speed ( notwithstanding the fact the front tyre has only got a few thousand miles left in it) . I know the answer is get to a suspension guru and have it sorted, was just hoping for a stop gap til the boss relinquishes her bear hug on the funds and crying "you've spent enough on that bloody bike already!" youre help and advice will be gratefully received rivets
Why don't you read some articles on suspension set up, and then have a play? The first thing is to set the "sag" ....basically how/where the bike sits on the suspension. Typically you would set a bike to use 1/3 of its travel for "loaded sag", so roughly 55mm in the Multi's case. Once you have done that (it's dead easy by the way, but you will need a hand measuring), then set the front and rear compression and rebound to how you like it. As a base setup, set rebound front and rear to 1/3 from fully "hard". Rebound controls the rate at which suspension "extends" after being compressed. Then set your compression damping (controls the rate at which the suspension compresses, e.g. after hitting a bump) for feel. Pick a quiet road, and then test.... A good way is to set all settings (compression and rebound) to minimum, then to maximum, so you can see how it feels. Then you set your rebound, then compression. Try it...
Also found this Rivets on another forum, which seems to have some good info. Base Model Suspension Chart - Ducati.ms - The Ultimate Ducati Forum I'm in a slightly different position to you in that I will be doing 2 up riding with luggage so if anyone has these settings already sorted would appreciate some information.
2up with luggage is probably not dissimilar my solo setup (~140kg)...certainly seems to work when friends have borrowed my bikes for a runout with their Mrs in the past
Thanks for the responses, I will have a tinker over the weekend to see what the current setup is and adjust as suggested
Not sure where you are in the country but P&H in Crawley set mine up and the improvement was very significant. Good value IMHO but this was for an S version though.
