Hi Folks, My 2013 1200S has a weird flat-spot between 1-2k rpm, which makes it tricky to pull away without really revving the bike. It's quite irritating. You try to pull away slowly and it sort of bogs down and almost stalls. Rev it past that and it's fine. Any ideas what could cause this? As an aside, I'd like to ditch the cat! If I fit a de-cat pipe how do I get the mapping adjusted? Any recommendations for good de-cat pipes? Thanks! Nik
Can't imagine there are many bikes that will pull away at those revs. 2000 rpm is not really revving it!
Mivv make a good system no need to re map but the flat spot at 1200rpm appears to be much less as they get more miles I have a 2013 @ 20,000km and don't really notice any problems now. Bike will pull away without any throttle.
I mean when you're trickling around slowly in town, or in traffic. Also more noticeable when my other half is on the back, as I'm trying to pull away more smoothly. I didn't notice it when I first got the bike - it's only now that I've done a good few miles that it's become a bit of an irritation. Nik
If you really want a bike which pulls well between 1,000 and 2,000 revs, may I suggest you consider a Harley-Davidson?
May I suggest you wash your mouth out?! You've entirely missed the point of my thread - there is a small glitch in the fueling which causes a flat-spot at 1-2k rpm and I'm wondering if there is a fix. That is all.
Flat-spot aside, is it possible to fit a de-cat pipe and retain the standard exhaust outlet? I'm assuming it would be hideously loud?!
I know exactly what you mean Nik. I bought my Multi earlier this year and experienced the same problems. In fact, I thought there was something wrong with it. I had an Aprilia RSV that was traded for the Multi, no issues at all when pulling away on that. I got used to it after a while. Leo Vince do a decat section that will accept the original pipes.
That's a good question. Mostly noticeable in Touring and Urban, as I use those most when riding with a pillion (hence wanting to pull away more smoothly). But I've also noticed it in Sport mode when riding solo too. Seems kind of amusing that many people seem perplexed at me apparently riding so strangely!! I don't know about anyone else, but pulling out of junctions, roundabouts, pulling away in heavy traffic, possibly in the wet, or simply trying to ride smoothly for the sake of my pillion, I'm not going to be doing grand prix starts all the time. There are occasions when it's necessary to ride using lower revs. Anyway, I'm guessing a combination of de-cat and some re-mapping might help. So what are the recommendations for the latter? Thanks! Nik
I've just gone out on mine to make sure, and even tho' I'm a slow old git, I don't go under 2K for a normal start!? I tried 1K and felt it too much like stall speed. Agree with @bradders. I'd use more revs and get away quicker.
Not sure even CJS could map that out as its so low in the range. Drop a cig off the front then you will naturally be in a higher range
It's partly me adjusting to riding a bike that revs more than my previous ride. So anyway, forgetting all of that, what are the popular de-cat pipes, and what are my options for adjusting the mapping to suit?
I have a decat for the non DVT ones, £50 if you want it, but you will need some kind of baffle in the end can!
The bikes target idle speed is about 1400.. Pulling the revs down below that with load will cause the ECU to try and lift them back to target. It does that by bleeding air into the inlets. It's going to run rough.....
