1200 DVT Adventure Helmets

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Brakes508, Sep 5, 2015.

  1. Ok folks starting the research on a new helmet! Currently have a Shoei xr1100 which I like on my ZZR12 but considering the ShoeI Hornet X2 when I buy the Multistrada. Does anyone use one that could give me feedback or maybe the Arai version? Many thanks in advance.

  3. Thanks, hmm kind of defeats the purpose of having the "adventure" style helmet! does the peak on the Arai have air flow vents to let wind pass through or does it feel like it's always pulling on your neck?

  4. I was considering one. Glad I stuck with a non-peak lid on the multi. When riding, putting my hand up into the air flow over the screen shows it hits just above my visor. If I open the front vents on the helmet, the noise is horrendous. Best thing seems to be a helmet with minimal drag, including vents etc...

  6. I have a flip down visor but it's woefully inadequate. It needs to be darker but I guess it's probably an EU directive that it was shipped with an internal sun visor that may as well be clear. Must get myself a darker one.

  8. I have a touring screen, winglets and Aztec spacers yet it still hits the helmet. A deflector on the top may be required but the tip of the touring screen flicks up anyway so unsure how to get a deflector that will fit.

  9. Have a look at the Hornet ADV.
    Am impressed with mine.
Doesn't catch the wind like others I've had.
It is noisier than normal a normal full face, but not as bad as a flip up/down.

  10. Can't comment on how they are with the Multistrada. But my other bike is a Tiger Explorer, an' I've got 2 peaked helmets that get used with that. Shoei Hornet and Arai TourX
TBH I've never found a problem with 'em. Theres enough airflow under the peaks so as not to feel like your head is being puleld up. Yeah ok they're a bit noisy compared to conventional helmets, and you'll feel it in a strong cross wind or when looking over your shoulder when cracking on but nowt to worry about.

  11. The multi is on a whole other level of poor wind management.

  12. Some have concerns with the screen over on Explorer forum, but me I'm fine with it

  13. Hi I use the Arai X4 from Ducati with my DVT

I got buffeting with that and my Shoei Neotech and Multitech - both the same as the X4

So I cut down a touring screen so the wind hits me at shoulder / neck level to avoid the buffeting.

The Arai X4 helmet is no issue until 80mph then from there up you do feel a bit more pressure but no issue to 100mph from 100 up you can only do short bursts unless you tuck in a little.

So for me with the cut down screen the X4 is fine for normal use

    I wear ear plugs.

  14. I know a lot of people go for the option of having it hit in the chest but I'm determined to get it working the way it should

  15. I agree with Simon above, no issues with my Arai Tour X4, i have a ducati carbon shorty on my DVT n its fine. I have had it up to 140 mph on the autobahn (!) n no buffeting

  16. I had to put stiffeners in my Arai tour X 4 peak. it resonated when I went over 50 and have me a head ake. apart from that I find it very noisy mostly wind noise but I don't get any buffering no matter what height I have my 2014 S GT screen. I am thinking of trying a few other helmets though just because of the noise.

    My opinion don't get a tour x 4.

  17. I use my Arai X4 for playing, any distance touring stuff I use a Schuberth C3 Pro

  18. 2x Arai XD3 (1x black / 1x Ducati Corse) and 2x Schuberth (1x C3 / 1x C3Pro both helmets (red) equipped with SRC Bluetooth) currently in frequent use - no dramas and pretty happy with them riding the MTS-PP 2012 with carbon shorty screen....

  19. I have an Arai tour X3 and a new Quantum ST and have found the Quantum to be a better helmet for normal road work. The Tour X is good around town for visibility but is generally noisier because of the design around the chin piece even without the peak.

Arai produce the Pro shade for the Quantum and the like, which is very good. You have the option of it up and clear vision and down for shade. It doesn't tend to cause any airflow issues either.

  20. Schuberth are best for sound proofing, german made and all that. buffeting is another issue.
