  1. arrived today ( thank you ),,, been looking throo the instructions , but still not clear,, are these " piggy back " or are they total replacement fittings,, going to be fitting them tomo eve..

  2. You have a 749, so the answer is both.
The solenoid to starter cable is definitely a replacement.
At least one of the battery cables is a piggyback though, as there are other wires /cables crimped into the existing terminals and piggybacking is the simplest way to get around that problem.
I'm surprised the instructions don't make it clear, as others have said how good they are but when you come to do the job, it should be fairly simple to determine whether to piggyback or replace. If the existing terminal has other wires crimped in, piggyback. If not, then replace.
Iirc though, both battery cables are piggybacked.

  3. I like this idea. I bought mine at halfords. Maybe not to the same quality / final finish but for less than a tenner great value.

  4. from wht i can see from looking at the instructions , the items them selves and the actual wiring loom it seems that the live from battery to solonoid is piggy because the lead pretty soon after leaving the battery becomes connected t the loom and the only way ( that i can see ) to seperatr them would be to cut the main poss feed,, the sol to battery seems replace, not sure about batt neg tho, or starter to earth ( is there one, will have to check, tho only three cables in the kit )

  5. Did you manage to piggyback them?
I found with my pre Exige, American kit that the terminals didn't fit at all well with the existing cables and terminals.
I imagine that Halfords cables would be a fair bit worse and no instructions of course.

  6. No starter to earth cable

  7. fitting them is not rocket science is it. Piggy backing very easy. Ie A to B. The lengths are not a "perfect fit" but who cares really, they are hidden away inside a fairing on most Ducatis. I did + batt to solendoid and solenoid to starter piggy back and an additional (I already had a spare - neg batt to earth) batt to earth in around 15 mins (fairngs off for a clean anyway)

  8. cool,, thats one less to worry about,, so it must be solly to earth i think that is straight replacement ,, ( bolt on side of engine block,, i am writing this from memory as bike is down on shed ) and solly pos to starter ( replacement ) so that just leaves batt neg to solly,, is that piggy or replacement,,,????? from what i remember it is sepperate lead so can be replaced...mmm

  9. sure it is not rocket science, but i want to know if the " intended " way for this kit,, ideally i would replace all but not at any inconvenience..

  10. If you follow the instructions (I never read instructions either :) )
In short, the 2 leads on the battery piggy back and the solenoid to starter lead is replaced as the instructions show. It may be best following the instructions step by step as you go...

  12. R
either you are very skilled or you don't ride a 999.
I found it a right fiddly job on my bike, not least because the American kit uses really fat cables.
Also, the terminals were really difficult to get to fit together with the existing ones and fit neatly with the battery box , even though they were supposedly designed to do exactly that. They were a right bastard to fit.
Finally, the rubber insert that fits in the battery box to stop the battery moving about did not want to go back, it really didn't. From the way it was creased and folded, I'm not the only person to have found that.

  13. tbh, i am a bit concerned about squeezing the cables into the already cramped area, i was hoping that they would be proper replacement ones,, however i have faith that a good job can be done,,,, soon i will know and report back .

  14. I think Exige was very restrained (must have had his business head on) I would have just said 'RTFI's as is often put in forums now adays or 'read the fucking instructions'. I was very impressed with the instructions, very clear from the start why the kit is a mixture of replacement and piggy backing and for those of us unwilling or even unable to read the instructions he included colour pictures and diagrams, what else can the poor bloke do?

  15. Check my pictures, I can email high res ones if needed. It is tight but if touted as shown they do fit quite easy. Good luck :)
