As you can see from the picture, I passed a significant mileage milestone the other day. I bought the bike with 11,000 miles on, so this represents 50,000 miles in my service. I've never achieved that on a bike before. At the moment all is good with the 4s, apart from a worn clutch basket that is getting a bit grabby and will need changing soon. I'll be looking to get at least another 20,000 miles from it before I'd consider ditching, but I had a sit on, but not go of, a Z1000SX recently and I was very impressed. Hmm. A
Well one of the consequences of doing high mileage is that big bits wear out. Lately I've been struggling with a very jerky clutch on release. It's as if it starts to release, gets stuck and then goes with a clatter. Not good! So, I got me one of these: It's an Ergal aluminium alloy clutch basket with a low friction coating. I know the clutch hub would be worn too, and it is, but it's nothing near as bad as the basket which was positively corrugated on the fingers. Change out was very easy as I also got one of the nylon, laser cut clutch holding tools from the same German supplier. So despite the clutch nut being torqued to 186nm, it was easy to both remove and torque up. On the traffic heavy run to work this morning, it feels like a new clutch, as I changed the clutch pack less than 20k miles ago. Plus I had done the quiet clutch mod at that time too. The Ergal item is cheaper than the OEM, fits any of the dry clutch Desmoquatros and is a higher quality item. Very happy with it. A
