Santander to Alme You would be OK doing 700 miles in a day (Santander to Almeria), @bradders . Everybody else would be well advised to take two days over it. Especially as that 700 miles includes crossing two major mountain ranges and Madrid.
It's certainly possible. But what are you trying to achieve: A. An enjoyable fun holiday ride? or B. A gruelling feat of endurance?
Exactly Pete, went on a trip to Czech in May. Alarm at 07:00 every morning, riding 08:00 till 19:00, quick shower, change, dinner, couple of beers, bed and repeat x 7. Did not get to go out and about in any of the countries, just saw what we saw from the bikes. Great trip, but could have been better if the riding was scaled back a bit. Jon.
Depends on what you rate as a holiday I guess Bradders? For me it is not something you need to recover from. (I know your comment was tongue in cheek.) Jon.
Finally, some more pics... Outside the B&B we stayed in, in the Picos: We noticed a number of lakes with severely reduced water levels, exposing old roads, and I was itching to do a little off-road! This was just south of the Pyrenees, about 30 miles south of Ainsa. Beautiful panorama to the left just out of shot (I can post some of those if anyone is interested): In the garage of the hotel we stayed in on the coast before heading home. The parking spaces are all named after famous circuits. I was in Phillip Island. The whole hotel is motor racing themed, in a kind of not too over the top way. In the hills above Santander, half an hour away from the ferry, on our final ride before coming home:
Some great pics (brings back memories of our very similar trip!) and good to meet you in the queue for the boat on the way out and the way back!! (Mike and Helen Grey Multi GT)
You too - should have arranged a pint in the bar. See you next time! Hope you had a good ride back up north! cheers, Nik
