Niccolò Canepa Allegedly Seen Hitting Another Rider’s Brake Lever

Wow what an idiot! He shouldn't keep his ride in wsbk in my opinion. Will be interesting to see what happens in court.

 

Given the obvious strop he has on, clearly not thinking at all. He may believe he did not intentionally mean to hurt the other rider but nothing can excuse what he clearly did and any experienced racer knows full well what will happen if you hit the front brake lever. Not sure how this sort a ABH is treated in Italy but he may well find himself no longer racing for Athena Ducati. Andy

That's what happens when you mix professionals with amateurs, even gifted amateurs. Been on 3 track days recently and ended up mixing it with racers. Josh Brookes had a "coming together" in the fast group at Cartagena and the amateur was not best pleased. Still no excuse for what Canepa did or for losing his rag. Andy

Nothing much to tell really. Milwakee Yamaha were at Cartagena for 2 days shaking down the new R1 pre season and those days happened to coincide with a Focussed Events 4 day track outing. During 1 fast group session Josh sat up a rider in a bend and put him in the kitty litter. Josh was circulating in 1:35s whereas the fastest of the fast group were doing 1:50s so it was reasonably foreseeable especially as I believe one or two of the fast group fancied themselves against Josh. Strangely Broc Parkes didn't have the same affect. Andy

Yeah, it puts things in perspective when you play with the pro's. Brookes turned up at Donington one day for a trackday I was on. I remember him coming past 5 (five) of us on the brakes into Redgate. Ha, brilliant! I'll stick to my day job!

If this 2013 incident is shortly coming to court, and if Canepa pleads not guilty, it will be interesting to see what his defence is. What explanation can he provide for his actions as shown by the CCTV images?

Apparently Canepa was riding in WSB as recently as two weeks ago, so he must have stayed out of prison so far.
