  1. why are we not checking the obvious first.?

  2. Sorry, what was the obvious?

  3. Plugs out. Oil level ok.[IMG][IMG]
Right plug, #4 has more oil/dark liquid up it.

They were not in very tight.

  4. to me, ignition, then compression then fueling. but now that i have seen the plugs.hmm. could still be several cold starts/ choke? new plugs, thrash it for a bit. if compression's not to bad. much cheepness.

  5. Happy for an Einstein to take over  You need to work on your Forum empathise-ation  If you or I had this motorbike in front of us it would be easy. Soaking bores isn't a bad start I wasn't at this time of night going to go into 1000 page essay on how to check each spark check for fuel blah blah

  6. chris  you grumpy?. it's a rule when your spending other peoples money to check the obvious and quick first.. it's a rule when your teaching/helping it;s important to get the thought processes going.:smile::Angelic:.

  7. So at least plugs look about the same? Hard to really tell from picture but they all look a bit rich – did it idle for a long time? As Fin said – if she hasn't idled for a long time then looks like blocks airfilter or choke on at the moment How old is fuel? Depending on how long/how damp The storage has been , it's possible that carbs could need a full strip and clean as a first step if Redex doesn't help. Just so we know – did it run perfectly okay last time it was used? How many miles on engine?

Sorry forgot to say – over to Einstein

  8. Might be quick to you and me, but not necessarily quick to others

  9. you called?

  10. quicker that pulling an engine. yes/no?

  11. Totally dude - how many drams you up to?

  12. If it has been standing for a year the fuel would have gone off. With the ethanol added these days it separates readily and absorbs water all bad news for carby bikes. What you have in the tank is a layer of water, pure ethanol and stale fuel, so the bike will draw off the water, ethanol and then fuel. So expect it to run badly.

I would drain the float bowls and empty the tank then add fresh fuel. If it still ran badly, check each plug is sparking the same, and if it is you may then have to strip and clean the carbs.

  16. Must be high crankcase pressure to fill up the airbox and foul the plugs with oil, to make it run poor.

I'd do as Chris suggests and see if there is cylinder blow-by. After a bit od diesel, warm the bike up and give it a good hard thrashing. Plenty of low gear high rev riding.

  17. 18k mls. Bike kept in damp wooden garage all last year. Started and left on tickover about 3 times and one wash and a ride around the block.

Been only leaving it to run for a few mins to flush coolant and change oil.

Can't take her for good ride as no MOT and no chain. Don't want to sink £100 on new CandS if I end up breaking her. (Really wish I didn't cut it off last week. Might just buy a new link rivet to get me through this.)

Will by some Redex today and leave in bores. How long do I press starter for, 1 second?

Will drain petrol through carbs and add a can of fresh with some Redex.

Spark plugs are 18 months old but only a couple of hundred miles.

Thanks for all the help so far guys
