1200 Servo Buddy Advice

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Ff6022, Oct 23, 2015.

  1. So, finally ordered the Leo Vince decat pipe, should be here Monday. Now where is it I plug a servo eliminator in? And will the servo eliminator my buddy is offering me work? He brought it for his 899 before he realised he didn't need it. Also is it easy to remove the whole servo unit and wires? If so how do I go about doing that. Cheers for any advice in advance, Josh

  2. If you have purchased your decat pipe direct from Leo Vince, the kit comes with a dead weight to attach to the flap servo and it works very well. Simple mechanical solution, no faffing around with wiring. Andy

  3. O nice one. Sounds good. Easy to fit? I brought it from Leo Vinces uk distributor

  4. Getting at the servo motor is within the capability of a confident home mechanic. I followed instructions in a post on here without any problems but access is restricted and it was a fiddley job. I've got sausage fingers which didn't help. Andy

  5. There's a step by step guide somewhere that I used to remove the exhaust valve motor. It's a fairly easy job but you do need to unbolt the rear subframe mountings and tilt the whole thing up so access can be gained.
Honestly, it's not as big a job as it sounds.

  6. It's much easier with two people .
One to hold the whole rear end if the bike and flex the rear subframe to the nearside, to allow a slim fingered person to extract the servo unit. Follow the instructions on here....(add link for lazy people who don't or can't find it themselves).

  7. Just a bump on this. Still dunno if the servo buddy my mate is offering will work. It was for an 899 and I want it on my multi.

  8. Where in East Sussex are you? I've had mine say under my seat because I haven't had time to follow the cable and find out where to plug it in. Does yours look the same? I'm guessing it will work on the basis that the signal being sent to the servo shouldn't have changed. It's still a basic servo.

  9. I think it's more of an issue on how the software interrogates the servo and then resorts "the fault" of no exhaust valve. This is different even across the three different models 2010 to DVT.

  10. Oh shite, fitting my decat is on the cards this week..should be interesting so......:Bag:

  11. Hello everyone, just finished put the Leo Vince pipe on the old girl. Opted for the weight on the servo instead of servo buddy so thanks for the info. Easy to fit, didn't need to take the servo motor out either.
I did do a time lapse and sound checks on the GoPro so wen I have time I'll post a link to them if they are any good. Do have one issue though. The end pipes don't go far enough on by about 4mm and I can't fit the standard Heat guard bk on. Any help?

  12. What end can are you trying to fit ? Just off out but will check back with you later. Andy

  13. Any pic of the servo motor with weight to shed some light on what the fook I'm trying to do lol

  14. I'll try to up load a piccy tomorrow. It's quite simple bud. Remove rear right side fairing panel. This exposes the ECU, the servo is to the right and behind it. Then it is just one Philips head bolt holding it in which you get access from rear. Now to get some space I took the bottom two rear sub frame bolts out and loosened the top two. I then lifted the rear of the sub frame using a piece of rope thrown over a ceiling beam (I was on my own). Only needs to come up an inch as it can snap battery tray under riders seat. This gave enough room so I could pull the servo back enough so I could take the White servo pully off and put the weight In the little gap between ECU and sub frame. Little hint make sure the inside of the weight is filled down. Where they drill the hole there swarf left and it doesn't push on. Then you can feed the pully and wire out replace servo holding screw, job done without taking servo all the way out.

  15. Force, this is what ur faced with wen you remove the right panel, the white round pully is what you need to replace. Using the above technique I swapped it with the weight in that space pictured:

  16. And in this picture you can see the one screw holding it, screw 28. Once the screw is removed it's still a little stiff so I had to pry it with a flat head. Also needed a little grease on the lug to put the servo back as the rubber gromit sticks.

  17. Not trying to teach you to suck eggs but obviously you have to remove the left fairing panel too to lift sub frame.

Lastly my advice would be to get a new exhaust header gasket too as I tried to remove the cat without taking the front header pipe off and it can't be done, it'll just make ur life easier if you just remove the front header pipe from the start.
Thanks to Andy's post for the photos.
Also Andy I am fitting stock exhuast. It's on but no properly. Hope these posts help.

  18. Stock end can.....
    WTF....
    Hold on to your ears!

  19. To be fair aircon with the extra baffle it's not too bad. It has the Ducati bark now but I don't think it's massively different. I'll post a vid with sounds clips side by side when I get round to editing it together.

  20. The LV decat pipe is known to be about 5-10mm too long for the Akrapovic after market end can but I am a little surprised you have found the similar issue with your OE end can as mine fitted without any issue and no-one else has mentined the problem. If all else fails, I know at least one forum member cut a bit off the end of his LV pipework. The OE end can "hook" really needs to fully locate around the pin on the pipework. Andy
