Oil Quality.

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by densel16, Nov 5, 2015.

  1. Has anybody used this oil. Gonna go il a 1098 engine that has just been rebuilt and will be run for first time. I'm planning on changing it after 500 miles. Big ends, rods and mains have been changed and crank reground. Pistons are original and all everything is greased for startup. eBay number 300718543793

  2. I suppose that it is only your engine so why buy decent oil when you can get cheap stuff that no one has ever heard of from ebay?

  3. It is German (maybe) and sold through a large long established motorcycle parts company, so as a short run flushing oil it should be fine. It might be worth asking them about it to see what they say.

  4. Well,
that's helpful. How do you know it's crap?

  5. D
ont know. Jeff from gtech? Put it together. Bought it off a guy called Chris from this forum. Spoke to Jeff and he said it was a replacement crank from himself and assured the quality.

  6. If Jeff built it, it'll be sound.

I used 'Millers' running-in oil in my Monster engine after the rebuild. Claims to be good for that very purpose and it costs less than that linked to on ebay, I got it from Opie oils.

  7. If Jeff built it, why not ask him about the oil?

  8. Your comment is directed at the wrong person, I never mentioned the word crap!
There are only so many companies who make engine oil and we have heard of most of them (BP, Shell, Castrol, etc). What would worry me is that for the price of a tank of fuel I could buy an oil that I know. Buying something that is obscure, especially from ebay, is a risk that most people would not take.
Who is to say that this is not some chip pan oil nicely packaged to fool people, after all the seller is trying to make as much profit as he can otherwise he would not be selling it.

  9. Buy a gallon of Castrol Power 1 for £30 (its only £38 at Halfords), do your run-in and replace with Plutoline Nanotech and a new filter. At the end of the day you're skimping to save 10 or 15 quid. Its not worth it.

  10. Got some shell ulra advanced and some silcoline fully synthetic . I think I'll leave it for a couple of hundred miles as I want to take it easy till everything beds in. I'm grateful for all the advice though. I just thought I'd ask if anyone had heard if it, but ended up going for the trusted option.
