Fuel Temp Unit And Solinoid Position On 1098

  1. Can anyone furnish me with a diagram/photo if the solenoid position and will the 996 fuel sender work with the 1098 clocks? Cheers Dave
     
  2. The 1098 solenoid is mounted under the battery box.

    The 996 fuel sensor turns on the light by supplying 12 to the dash light when the fuel level drops.
    The 1098 fuel sensor however, turns on the dash light by providing a ground when the level drops.
    It could probably be made to work but you'd need to do a bit of re-wiring at the tank end so that the light blue wire is connected to ground instead of switched 12V.

  3. Will the 1098 sender fit the 996 housing as. I have a 1098 loom?
     
  4. The 996 fuel pump/sender unit will plug straight into your 1098 loom and operate fine...:upyeah:

  6. Don't suppose anyone has a spare sender as I think mine is cream crackered! Fuel light never worked on my 996 so I ran out of fuel more than once. Thanks Nelson for the heads up, but does the 1098 sender fit? I take it that the 1098 doesn't have a fuel gauge, only a shit light like the 996. For those that don't know, I've put a 1098 engine, loom and ecu, etc into my 996.
     
  7. Not sure if the senders are interchangeable. Mines has never worked either.
     
  8. Just looked it pics of one and it doesn't look like it will swap. After a 996 sender. Has the 1098 got fuel gauge or just light?

  10. I think the senders are a bugger to change. Doesn't the nut snap off? Although @final_edition makes a nice replacement.
    I'd look out for a cheap pump.
    The 1098 also has a light, but, IIRC it also counts the miles down...I honestly can't remember exactly, I got in the habit of pretty much filling up as I left the house for a ride.
     
  11. I have already got a nut off FE, but the fuel light would be handy as usually I have to fill up during a ride and I don't want to stop at every fuel station. I don't need a pump so why spend £80-£100 on something I don't need. It's cost me £3500-£4000 as it is.!!!
     
  12. Are you sure it was the sender that was nfg, or was the dash lamp busted?

  14. Just a suggestion, as in my experience the senders don't often come up/sell for damn near the same price as a pump and usually break when removed.
    Apparently the senders can sometimes be fixed with a blow from a compressor, but then you have to refit it to find out.
    You don't have to stop at every petrol station, what I used to do was fill up and set the trip, when it gets close to 100, time to fill up again.
