I am (hopefully) buying a very low mileage '98 750ss this week. It has 13,000 on the clock and therefore not used a lot. The guy selling it said he only rode it on dry days and only for a few miles at a time. The belts were done 2 years ago and it has been well looked after since (indoors). He is doing the MOT for me. The problem is thus: Do I get a one way train ticket and ride it home? Will I be risking belt damage due to the length of time since last change? or Rent a van and drive it back? Or am I just being over cautious and just get on the thing and take the long way home (with AA card firmly in top pocket?!) Can't wait either way! Just sold my Pantah and looking forward to riding something everyday....
Its due a blet change, but hasd been used on aregular basis. If it was me, I would ride it back. Some others wouldnt..
I rode mine 130 miles when I first picked it up and that was with the rev-counter drive all graunched up in the cylinder head.... AL
I wouldn't worry about 2 year old belts personally, I'd ride it back! If you're worried, check the belt tension before you leave, as long as they're not over tensioned they should last a lot longer than the 2 years Ducati recommend!
I'd ride it back as well. If it's been sat for a couple of years then I'd take a van, but it sounds like it gets used, if not very often.
A nice steady run down the M4 should be fine. As has already been said as long as the belts are not over tightened and you don't rag it stupid you should be fine
