Brand new Multi DVT in June loaded onto the AA trailer today for the second time since I got it. To say I am pissed off is an understatement. 4 GS's in 8 Years without 1 issue. I know that things can go wrong with any bike but this latest has made me feel sick that I have made a horrible decision in switching to Ducati. Unlocked steering lock today which worked ok except the bike thinks it is still locked and won't allow the bike to be started. Ducati experience not what I wished for or expectedParcel of
Ten years ago, I'd have unhesitatingly recommended Ducati - that seemed to be about when their product quality peaked. I've ridden all over Europe on my now 13-year-old ST4s and never had a problem. I lost track of the amount of time I spent either searching for oil for dipsomaniac GSs or waiting for recovery trucks for them (all the usual GS issues). However I've been far less than whelmed with my Multistrada 1200 (pre-DVT), due to small stupid issues and poor finish. And just looking at the machines, they seem to be more cheaply finished in pretty much all areas than hitherto: Audi seems to be building them down to a cost rather up to a quality that reflects their selling price. You have my sympathy.
Yeah, i am in the same boat in my head. 8 years on GS's and not many major problems but the amount of times I've read in the past two years of multi's been recovered would mean. Not one but possibley two days off work for me & when you're PAYE it not a prospect a premium motorbike or brand should give off!
Interesting. I have had 3 multistrada's since 2010 and done around 40k miles. Not one breakdown on the road, 1 duff battery, one dropped valve collet and multiple arranged recalls. Not bad imho. I have heard that BMW have a warranty failure greater than 1 which means each bike has failed at least once in warranty and the failures are major. Funny how personal xperience affects your view point
Doesn't take much searching on this forum to find enough issues to suggest these are not isolated problems.
It's what happens when you source your manufacturing from China, 70% of the gs wc components are manufactured in China.
Maybe I was just lucky but I did the first 22K miles on my 2010 without a fault. Did the recalls but nothing failed. It DID all go tits up at 22K but that was resolved with replacement of some substantial electronics (Ducati paid for the parts) and it's been fault free since then other than water ingress into rear light cluster which I replaced myself. Now at 29K, running perfectly (knock on wood).
You have my sympathy. It seems some bikes are just plain poor while others seem pretty much trouble free. Mines been OK to date but it's not without quality issues. To balance I had two new beemers that both failed switch gear and one also had hot start failures meaning a wait til the thing cooled down. These plus one or two recalls and I would say, quality issues apart, the multi has been better (touching bonce)
Bike back again after replacement hands free unit. I do hope it settles down now as I really like the bike but don't have patience for persistant let downs. Bad job when the AA get to know you by first name. I have to say that the response from Millport Ducati has been second to none
