hi just picked up my diavel yesterday. Anyway it got soaked and filthy on way back from dealer so gave it a clean, today. Mine is the dark and wondered what the best way to finish the tank off, I sprayed some wax and polish wd40 spray on and isn't bad but hasn't buffed up as well as painted tank.suggestions please. Also was debating a red stripe like the white in the carbon for a bit of a colour, has anyone done similar. Also the chain slap noise in the swing arm. Is there a way to stop it like piece of foam or similar. The chain is adjusted correctly as I made them do it again.
Sorry mate, you are buggered, not supposed to ride them in the rain. What were you thinking of ? Many years ago, back in the early 1990s I had a 900ss. While it was under warranty it split a piston. I got it to the supplying dealer who also happened to be the importer at that time. Anyway, a day or two later I got a call from the mechanics confirming they were going ahead with repairs under warranty but that they had to argue my case with the big boss who apparently was blaming me for the problem as I had been riding in the rain and allowed the bike to get dirty . Nice !
Yes was dmc. Always road all year round and can't say really had any issues at any point. Had corrosion due to salt over winter but intend to use one of the others through the Salty months.
If you want to keep your Dark a Dark I wouldn't be polishing it with anything. You will end up with shiny spots all over it, it's supposed to be a matt finish. I just wash mine with soapy water and chamoi dry. Occasionally I'll spray and wipe it with shining monkey 360, it's for matt finishes.
Thanks. I thought that after. Used sdoc on the whole bike but future think I'll just use it on engine and Lower bits and car shampoo or similar on the body work. And something like the spray you suggest is ideal for occasional use thanks
There are products about for the matte paint. I use Motul Matte Surface cleaner on customer bikes and prior to that I used Scholl Concepts matte polish. The key is to let the products do the work. Wipe the surface as little as possible whether washing it or polishing.
Thanks I'll get some of the motul stuff o think. Is it something you use every time you clean the bike or occasional use?
More importantly what do you use to waterproof the leather waistcoat and tassels and don't you find the water gets into your cowboy boots?
I clean all the bikes post service, but I only see them at that time. Both product leave a protectant finish, so it's probably something that needs doing occasionally rather than every ride.
As a long-time Harley owner and self proclaimed cleaning\polishing expert I can save you a few quid on matt finish cleaning. After washing off the polish with Muc-off or similar, use glass cleaner from the local pound shop. Works fine and it's cheap! I used it on my matt black Harley XR1200X for 2yrs with no problems. I would have thought any dealer who used the excuse 'you've ridden it in the rain' would be laughed out of the small claims court. Even Harley dealers wouldn't try that on! Actually my 1100evo is brilliant in the rain. Michelin Pilot Road 4's are fantastic and there's the safety net of TC and ABS. I suppose it helps that it only weighs about 180kg as opposed to my Harley which weighs 340kg...
Thanks very much will give that ago. Does it give any uv protection or does Matt finish not need it? What about baby wipes.? Are good on carbon fibre pedal bikes
I think I've parked in the sun once but can't recall when. Ha was from dmc at Preston but the bike came from the Manchester branch
