Hi from an open Termi addict from Oxford (ish)

  1. Hi All,

I've only been biking a since 2008 but always been a big v-twin fan, my first bike was an '08 Buell xb12s (sorry) which was immediately fitted with a custom can to let the raw roar out and rear end chopped of the hideous cheesegrater plate hanger thing, great fun bike but bit began to fall off of it, and with the demise of Buell as we knew it, I decided to get shot of it before it was worthless. It went to Germany for not much less than what I paid for it - result!

Once the Buell had gone, I went shopping for the bike I REALLY wanted, since seeing and lusting after it at the launch of the 'new' monster at the NEC bike show in 2009(?) I was on the hunt for a nice used M1100s. Popped into the dealership in early 2011 soon after the EVO was announced and they had an unregistered 1100s in red, and due to the imminent release of the EVO was priced well. I did some thinking about should I wait and save a bit more cash for the Evo or go for it, I decided to go for the 1100s, as I liked/preferred the under seat exhausts, the distinctive dry clutch rattle and am a sucker for a bit of Ohlins 'bling'. Also I'm a bit dismissive of ABS and DTC (or any electronic stuff telling me what I should be doing/not doing) to be honest, but am prepared to be proved wrong.

So on March 1st 2011 my new 11 plate Monster was delivered to my door, the best feeling ever, like a kid at Christmas! It had been out of the van for about 5 minutes and I had to set about fitting an Evotech tail tidy straight away, as I found the standard offering insulting to my eyeballs. Soon after I bought an open clutch cover, DP pressure plate and stainless springs to let the rattle out, and I ran it on stock pipes for a while and loved every minute. A bit later on I managed to pick up a barely used DP Carbon Termignoni kit off of eBay, so set about fitting them, when taking it up the road for the first time sans baffles (naturally), I can honestly say that it made me laugh like some kind of maniac, awesome, just awesome!!

I've now had the bike 18 months and covered a modest 5k miles and still really really enjoy it, the sound of the termi's on the overrun still makes me smile like a loon! I am now however looking to sell the Monster as I really fancy trying out an 848 Evo, I've not had a Superbike yet so that's why I've joined here to read about your experiences of the 848 good or bad, I'd be particularly interested to hear from anyone that has done the same Monster 1100 to 848 step.....?

Anyway, enough waffle, I've got some 848 searching to do......

    Take it easy.....

    Steve

  2. Hello and welcome. Nice bike and I think you'll find there's plenty of folk on here who love their 848's. I have an ST3 but love the look of the 848. Even saw a Bayliss rep the other day and it was superb!

  3. Welcome. Your monster looks really good dude and I hope you find the answers to your questions

  4. Welcome to the forum buddy, good luck with the search.

    Cheers

  5. I had a M1100 with Termi's, my first Ducati from new and I loved it. I'd still have it to this day if I wasn't tempted by the power of the Streetfighter 1098 which I duly chopped it in for. 848 is a fine bike, wonder what its future holds considering the rumour of a 'baby' Panigale?

  6. Thanks for the welcome guys :)
