Servicing Costs!! What The Hell!!

  1. so I am preparing my HYM SP 821 for the 12 months service

    I call Metropolis (london) for a quote: £300 (!!!!)

    I call Snell: £170/200
seriously Metropolis? now if it wasn't that it's quite a pain in the arse to go to alton in january, I wouldn't think twice but I might actually do it, given how much I already immensely dislike Metropolis service team

have you guys received similar quotes elsewhere?

  2. I'm afraid I can't provide any comparative costs, but I would say that I wouldn't pay someone that I don't like, or trust, to do servicing work on any of my vehicles. I've often gone out of my way when maintaining cars in order to use those who have previously provided good friendly service, whether franchised or independent. Of course it's easier to do that with a car, in January!

With bikes, some people will go a long way to get the service they want, and I know that Snells have a wide "catchment area" due to their reputation. It's not Ducati, but I thought this was an interesting thread elsewhere - lessons in Triumph maintenance - and perhaps an opportunity for an independent Ducati engineer to consider doing similar:

    Clive Wood service class

  3. ok thanks
btw my 1st year falls on the 15th of January. if a bike isn't used that much (like in my case) is it acceptable to wait longer than 12 months, so I might go, say, in early March? would this void my warranty?

  4. When I bought my 1098R, the previous owner had a service receipt in there for £8,000 :Wideyed:. £300 is chump change in comparison.

  5. I would ask Metropolis to give a breakdown on the cost as this is the service for 1 year on Hyper unless you have done loads of miles its 1hr 24mins parts are oil +filter, I expect being in London their labour rate wont be far off £100 per hour but even with oil cost and filter that wouldn't be £300

  6. Just had a 4 year low miles main dealer service on a Diavel this morning and including extra time for a non service adjustment to the brake lever, it cost £175. Some dealers are discounting their labour rate for December/January so £300 does sound a bit steep fot what is a basic oil change and check over. Andy

  7. I agree. snell told me their labour is 58+VAT - maybe the girl on the phone from Metropolis was wrong and did not check properly. another example of great precision and transparency from Metropolis
    absolutely

  8. I know riders discount their service during winter and pick up/drop off your bike for free (don't know if they'd come to London though) perhaps other dealers will do this.

  9. Does seem very high, think mine was about £80 but I did supply my own oil

  10. Ducati leeds will pick the bike up for free (I live in leeds) service and wash. With discount around this time of year too. Some dealers should greet you with a mask on!

  11. Thinking of using Leeds for my next service & some warranty work (keen to avoid Ducati Manchester) how do you rate them apart from convenience?

  12. I'd carry on a bit further and use Cornerspeed if you want good service

  13. If they are a Ducati main agent? Find a good specialist!

  14. Yeah thanks I've heard they are sharp however it's approx 1.5 hours each way plus waiting for service, ends up being a full day off work. Even trickier if you have to leave it for warranty repairs.

  15. I've used them once, reasonable price, friendly and they even called the mechanic in on a Saturday for me as it was the only day I could make it. They let me stand in the workshop while the mechanic serviced the Desmo, which was interesting and decent of them. Proved they had nothing to hide in my eyes. I wasn't prying, just didn't have anywhere to go as I'd travelled 100 miles to them.

  16. I'm very new to Ducati's but previous owner of my 2004 4,800 mile 749 warned me off main agents and sang the praises of "DUCATI PRO TEAM LTD" in strood,Kent and had 10 services by them!

  17. I rate ducati leeds highly. I rate ducati john higher and he's also in leeds.it's all down to price this time of year .There's bargains to be had if you shop around.

  18. Personally, older bikes I'd go with an independent that knows the older bikes. A new bike, I think you need to trust a main dealer. Or just stick it on a van and send it to @nelly

  20. I would say for a minimal oil change service....do it yourself - staple/or keep the receipts with the service book and make a note of the mileage. I think most people would assume if theyre going to buy a bike and it looks, looked after then they'll trust you on the small stuff....my z1ooo has needed 2 services since brand new which ive done myself as they are just oil and filter changes. ive used silkolene pro4 and K&N filters, made a note of the mileage and kept the receipts. The next service will be at 12.5k which will be a valve check so ill put it in for that and get a stamp in the book.
