I have a problem with my belts on my st2.the tensioner is near the end of the adjusting range after setting the correct tension.the belts are new ones from Gates.I have tried to install the old ones and the same sh**!!! the old ones were very loose when I removed them.the tensioner bearings and idler are new,I have compared the new ones with the old ones and the dimensions are the same.the gasket surfaces of the cylinder heads were machined, since the head leaked badly, but no more then 0,12 mm.the base gaskets are also new and the same thickness as the old ones.one bolt of the tensioner is VERY close to the belt,I can solve this with a flat head bolt, but there is almost no free play for further tensioning the belt.checked the pulley and they are ok.any clues???
When I had the heads on my 916 skimmed (to up compression) I needed larger idler pulleys to take up the slack created by the shorter belt run. Also had the cams 'dialled in' to ensure timing correct. Maybe you could fit larger diameter bearings/idlers?
On the carbed SS, the 'inner' bolt that is close to the belt, is in fact a low-head bolt as standard.........but I agree, your adjustment limit is a bit near..... Are the old belts Gates or OEM Ducati?
Theres oversize tension pulleys for this problem. I think Lougi Moto in Bristol had some. Or try steve at BBB fabrication.
The belt doesn't look to be a OEM belt. Also the tensioner bearings and idler bearings don't look stock?? Have they been swapped out? Smaller bearings and/or longer belt would put the tensioner in the position you have?
The belt is a Gates item, the same size and teeth as was fited before 70 teeth, tensioner and idle bearings are new ducati items
