190/55 17 - Anyone Tried One?

Discussion in 'Sport Touring' started by Ascalon, Jan 9, 2016.

  1. My local shop has a cracking deal on a set of tyres that includes a 190/55 rear tyre.

    I've never run a 190 on the 4s before.

As the 4s has the OEM carbon hugger, are there any clearance issues?

Does it mess up the steering?

I've already jacked up the rear a fair but and it is plenty stable but turns in nicely.

    Cheers,

  2. I'm guessing that you OE rear tyre is a 180/55 ? That being the case, to maintain the rolling radius as close to OE you would look to fit a 190/50. A 55 profile in the 190 will interfere with your hugger. Andy

  3. Aye,
I suspect that's why the shop has a surplus of 190/55 tyres and is practically giving them away.

    Cheers

  4. If it's same rim as 996 it's fine, you will notice it's taller than a 190/50 and may rub hugger etc

If you want to research check out gearingcommander.com as when you change tyre sizes it shows difference in speed too

  5. I'd suggest not going with a 190/50. It will turn slower than the 180/55. Also, going from 180/55 to 190/55 will change ride height. When I switch my wheels for the track, I sometime use a 180/55 or a 190/55, and a change requires adjusting the rear shock height.
