Hi all A friend recently had his 675 Daytona knocked over, and subsequently written off He's now looking for an 848, and had (perhaps unwisely) enlisted my help to find him one He has a budget of around £5.5-6k, for which there's a few on auto trader / eBay, but I wanted to ask you knowledgable lot of what we should be looking out for, and what we should be checking as known issues Any help or info would be greatly appreciated as it's not a model I have any experience of Cheers These are a couple we've seen advertised currently ; Ducati 848 Termignoni exhausts, full ducati history, carbon, Imactulate machine | eBay http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201511218882854?atmobcid=soc4
6k private sale will 'just' get a clean Evo, and IMHO are worth getting over the older 848. He'll get upgraded brakes, steering damper, more power and slightly improved fuelling (apparently) and a bit less weight. I've had Daytona's either side of my 848 Evo and now the 899, so I can tell u it will take a bit of getting used too coming from the Daytona.
Funnily enough, since writing the original post, he's upped his target to an evo. We've seen a black one on Ebay that he's sent an enquiry about
Ah, Matt black, I see... I think I looked at the ones on eBay and one looks like the fairings have gone 'shiny' which they should not be so get him to properly check it out
Can you expand on that please. It adds a steering damper but where does the EVO save weight over the standard? I would have thought that they were the same weight before the damper was added, but I am ready to be corrected.
It has the magnesium headlight arrangement from the 1198, and the head covers (which tbf is grams) and I believe has the even thinner engine castings, certainly if u believe the blurb from the launch. Either way it's a max of 1-2kg but the engine has more top end. Ironically some say the standard 848 is a better road engine, I haven't ridden one so couldn't say! Either way I'm sure it will be a nice bike, the used price differences will be so negligible that for me it's worth holding out for an Evo!
I'm sure my 848 non evo had the mag front fairing stay and head covers. Don't think there's much or any difference in weight between the 848, evo or corse SE. TBH, not much at all between the evo and non evo. Better brakes and a tiny bit more power. The corse SE would be the one to go for if he could stretch his budget just by a bit.
I would say the 6hp is worth it though: First Ride: Ducati 848 Evo review - Road Tests: First Rides - Visordown
I bought my 848 from Superbike factory for £5600 2 months ago and im super happy with it. Came with termis, loads of rizoma upgrades, the entire back end + swingarm are carbon fibre. Integrated tail indicators, Marchinesi forged wheels and some more things. However there were few issues, one of the pins on the left mirror is missing, the dipped beams didn't work and im having to take it back (probably something really simple) and the alarm/immobiliser is currently turned off. Great bike though, ive ridden both this and the Daytona and they are both great bikes but miles apart. The daytona is so smooth its like riding a hoverbike and its extremely agile, the 848 is like a shaky torque missile that wants to rip your arms off at all times. However....thats what i love about the bike <3
Carbon fibre cover on it buddy! If it was carbon fibre i would have got an insane bargain, those things are like 2k alone haha.
That's probably caused by using the wrong kind of shampoo/cleaning agent. Shame as I believe it's impossible to correct once shiny.
Hi....I've got a stunning 3700 mile 11 plate Evo that I posted in the for sale section earlier today....it'll stretch the budget but it's a beauty and there to be sold Just a thought!
