other road users complaining that you are dazzling them, even though you are only on dipped headlights. An example of this was this morning, when I was riding on the M42 to work. Had a van driver in front of me who kept putting his rear fog lights on...so I hit the main beam just to show that the lights were only on dipped. He kept doing it, so I went around him and as I did he put his window down and was shouting about me being dazzling him... Not the first time I've had this and I did report it to my local dealership previously. Its been in for its first service/check over and the guys said there was nothing wrong with the lights. Thoughts folks ? Lee.
Adjust the headlamps so they are angled downwards slightly: 1. Under the bottom yoke is a triangular piece of black plastic trim, held in place by three screws; remove this. 2. Put a 13mm socket on the end of a long extension bar. 3. Insert the bar up the aperture and engage the socket on the 13mm hexagon bolt head which is on the bottom of the headlamp unit. 4. Shine the beam against a wall and mark the position. 5. Turn clockwise to adjust down, anti-clockwise to adjust up. 5. Check beam has moved against the wall mark; adjust further if required. 6. Reattach the plastic trim with three screws. 7. That's it.
I have had the same problem a few times with 13 plate skyhook, like you I just flash my lights to show im not on full beam. I did ask my dealer he just said "that's how they are "
I did get flashed all the time when riding my 2014 pre Dvt, but now my Dvt doesn't have led headlights, I don't get flashed
Sorry but your dealer is leading you up the garden path. It is not "how they are". Headlamp alignment is adjustable, and setting it lower is a ten minute job at most. Lots of Multis seem to come from the factory with the lamps set too high, which is a pity but not a big deal to fix. Unfortunately the section of the Owners' Manual about "Aligning the headlight" on pages 365-366 is very badly written and unhelpful. It does not tell you how to access the adjusting bolt [see my post #2 above].
As Pete says, adjust headlight, I took mine as far down as I dare and it hasn't made riding at night any worse
Mine were really high. I could see the beam cut off was actually in line with the roof of their car. Lowered mine a ridiculous amount and the cut off is now just below a standard cars rear window. Still had an altercation with a Porsche who actually waved me past and then sat on my rear wheel with full beams on. Mix of tall bike and low car, not exactly my fault. Bet he gets the same with big 4x4's.
Thanks, I'll give this ago tonight, I get a lot of flashes and even cars pulling over to let me past because of the beam angle, I can see its awful with a passenger on the back, even with loads of preload to try and stop the sag.
The key point here is your weight and your suspension settings. If you are 75 kg (which is the average male weight in anthropometry) and the settings of the rear preload are adjusted from the factory, the beam angle is nominal. If you are heavier and you don't want rear preload then you have to adjust the beam. For a heavier driver, preload should be adjusted for handlings sake, so you shouldn't bother adjusting headlights. Assuming Ducati factory settings are ok.
Yep dead right if your a fat get like me you'll either need to wind the preload right up or like I did change the spring for a custom designed one. Simples
