Throttle Cable Damaging Clock Unit

Discussion in 'Streetfighter' started by tolsworth, Jul 7, 2015.

  1. Hi all, hoping that somebody can help with a query. I've got a 2013 1098 standard SF that's only done 1,500 miles and have just noticed that one of the throttle cables is rubbing against the clock unit. It's work through the plastic cable sheath and thus the bar cable is wearing away a nice old groove into the clock unit. Has anyone else come across this before? Are my cables routed correctly? Have added some pics to help

  2. Uggh. I had a 2011 1098SF and that didn't have that issue. The cable routing looks correct to me however. @Gimlet has a 1098SF and I'm sure he can check his and confirm.

  3. My cable and wiring bundles are in contact with the instrument pod but there is no wear. It looks like my cables are routed - or bundled - differently to yours.

My throttle cables, clutch and brake lines are at the back of the bundle behind the electrical wiring sheaths which cushion the cables and keep them out of contact with the pod.
Your brake and throttle cables on the right hand bar are in front bearing directly against the plastic. The cables are more rigid than the wiring sheaths and they'll be vibrating and flexing against the plastic pod causing the wear.
I'd drop the headlight pod down like you would when changing a bulb and rebundle those wires and cables so that the cables are at the back.

  4. Thanks dude. Hopefully they'll replace mine under warranty and will then make sure routed like yours.

  5. I'll check mine tomorrow

  6. To the OP and Gimlet, thanks for posting with pics. I had a different source problem but needed to know what standard cable routing looked like. Your posts were very helpful.
    Cheers, Tubrag.
