For anyone afflicted by a seized swingarm bolt, DON'T DISPAIR! I finally got mine out today...Yippee! What worked for me was P squared, no P cubed, no even P quadrupled: Patience, Perseverance and Plenty of Penetrating fluid. Since before Christmas I've repeatedly drowned it WD40, let it stew overnight, given it some domestic violence...no joy. Seemed like the little b****** was going to defeat me, but I really, really didn't want to resort to cutting it out, so one last trawl of the interweb. Turns out my answer was already on this forum (with a little bit of reading between the lines)...ditch your WD40! Don't know if you've seen it, but I read a post about penetrating fluid effectiveness and BOTTOM of the league was WD40. Top was a home brew of 50:50 acetone and automatic transmission fluid (what's an automatic transmission ?) but not into home chemistry so what to use instead? Came across another post that mentioned "Wurth Rost Off"...nope...not a typo. German for rust, methinks. Love to give credit to the poster but can't find it again. So if you're reading this you know its you. Many thanks mate! After many, many weeks of baths in WD40 I used Rost Off. Two overnight soaks later the bolt has been liberated! So, if like me, if you're having a seizure and you don't fancy tree surgery as the solution, try ditching your WD40! Worked for my 21 year old 916 that AFAIK never had the bolt removed before.
Pleased for you, had a similar problem a few years ago, I now remove and grease mine every service. Steve
I have had good success on header bolts with a liberal and repeated application of ACF-50 (3 soaks in as many days and they all came out with no bother), It is supposed to wick it's way in and kill any corrosion, it is also a better lubricant than WD-40. Thanks for the tip, I will have to add some Rost off to the potions shelf in the garage.
Hey Stonesie, thanks for the reply. I'm not trying to imply that Rost Off is the best penetrating fluid God ever created, just that WD40 seems to be the worst Maybe a new thread on penetrating fluids? (with the word Durex excluded)
I know, I mainly use WD as a de-greaser or on the occasion that I'm working with Aluminium, it's a fantastic cutting/tapping fluid for that. ACF probably is not the best either but it is good and most of us probably have a part tin somewhere.
Hey Roadtrip, Hours? On lucky you. I'm guessing you mean countless weekends of hours But please tell us what juju juice you used? WD40?
I would say an hour a night for a week, i put the nut back on a few threads and a socket on each end kept hitting each side so to brake the grip the rust had on the spindle, needed a another spindle as thread was wrecked but it was out  Used WD40 but know i use GT85 much better.
yip. good stuff. worth do some right good stuff also. they used to do a spray on thread restorer also. full of little beads or something. re cuts the threads as you run the nut up and down.
I use this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Power-Blaster-H-16-PB-Penetrating-Catalyst-11-oz-/200950209598?hash=item2ec990dc3e:g:YxsAAOxyGstSABsb which works most of the time, only problem is it is quite hard to buy over here and pretty expensive. I bought a can back from the US when I was last there and it last for ages. I had the same problem with several swinging arms that I have moved over the years and this has always done a good job of dissolving\softening the rust enough to get them out in the end. The last one took a week of using the fluid once a day.
