749/999 Ohlins Shock

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by JC749, Feb 8, 2016.

  1. Springs around the corner so its time to replace the sachs shock thats blown three times since I decided it would be a good idea to get it serviced.

I am weighing up my options but would like an ohlins really. Can anyone tell me what Ohlins part number I should be looking for? So far ive found a load of stuff but nothing I can rely on.

I know about the top of the range 301 shock which is nice but what about the OEM numbers as breakers dont seem to be either truthful or know what they have?
I seem to find shocks with about 4 different part numbers.

    Can anyone identify these:

DU 301 (race shock - fits but pricy and better than what I really need)
    DU3240 (for an R?)
    DU1390 (for an R?)
    DU326 (no idea)
    DU501 (no idea)
DU 510 (no idea but high end - for an R?)

I know all about the R shock not working without the correct rocker arm & tie rod etc.

    Cheers.

    JC

  2. DU3260, DU3270 and DU1390 are the OEM shocks found in 999S and 999R models (apart from Xerox), with compression and rebound adjustment and a conventional preload adjuster.

DU301 is an aftermarket race shock with high and low speed compression adjustment, rebound adjustment and a hydraulic preload adjuster.

DU510 is the OEM shock for 999R Xerox models only, it's the same as DU301 but with a blue adjustment nut (instead of silver on the 301).

All these shocks work with the stock rocker and ride height adjuster, only the 749R had a linear rocker.

DU3240 is the OEM shock for 749R, with a shorter stroke.

  3. Wow, that's what I call a full reply...

  4. Awesome, thanks for that.

I spent last night on Ducati Omaha comparing shock linkages and rockers for all the models so yes, you are spot on :upyeah:

  5. Edited my post, had a mistake with one model.

  6. For anyone looking, All the 749 & 999 shocks will work except for the 749R shock. That is the only one with a different linkage and rocker, and the shock has a different stroke. All the other models share the same rockers and linkages so just avoid 749R shocks unless you have the rocker.

I ended up buying a new Showa shock for about the same cost as a shock service so worth a punt.

  7. The 749R was for supersport racing so it had a different (linear) suspension spring curve which is why some fit 749R kit.
