Well im making the swap from a 2010 1098 streetfighter. Its an awesome bike but knees/back hurt and getting old! My question is........ With the deposit im putting down i can get a 2016 1200 for £75pm or a 2016 1200S for £130 pm(on a pcp finance thingy) Is the 1200 S worth the extra £55 or does the 1200 come with enough equipment/torque etc. I have googled all the stats but id like to hear from you guys experiences Cheers
I was told by a ducati dealer that if you're not intending taking pillions then dont bother with the S . Spend that extra cash on accessories .
£55.00 month sounds a lot for a bike that only costs £2500 more ? Does that mean the residual value is higher on the standard than the S model ? looking at second hand S models for sale they seem to take some shifting, I've seen 18 month old ones struggling to sell at £10K. Anyway, the S model looks nicer imo with the gold forks, carbon and nicer wheels etc...why don't you try and do a deal on a Stripe model, they look even nicer and may be better second hand value as only made them for one year.
I think you have the wrong bike ! He's talking about upgrading to a multi. I had 1200s I never take a pillion so the skyhook would have been left in one setting, anyway i sold it and brought another dvt this time 1200 no fancy suspension and tbh it feels better suspension wise, I want the characteristics of the engine and both are identical, still has cruise, no led's but I've since upgrade the bulbs and stuck the OE fogs on it.
As already stated... sounds like you're paying a lot extra for the S. In terms of outright cost difference (if not on finance) the S is definitely worth the difference in my opinion. The suspension alone is worth the difference and I will NEVER be taking a pillion. Interestingly, my dealer tried all sorts of bullshit to convince me a non-S would suit me, coz he had 3 in stock and no S!!!! the lights are amazing and cannot be added after. They are the best lights I've had on a bike by a very long way. I commute on mine and really like being seen. the power and torque are identical. One small caveat, in comparison to some brands (mostly japanese) these are not reliable bikes. The standard bike has a little less to go wrong!
Thanks chaps. I know what you mean but the residual value isnt a worry due to the upgrade option and buy back amount. I never take pillion but on the other hand I do like to be see and to see...... I was thinking of the 1200 with the sports and enduro pack which will push the price to somewhere in the middle of the 2 for PCP finance.
Sounds a good option with those packs, Is the sport pack a full system or just end can? If you want noise then you need to get the cat off. I have the S ('13) model and within a month of buying it had a pillion and full luggage on for a charity ride, it was nice to pick the back end up with a couple of button presses and barely be able to tell I wasn't riding solo. I was still overwhelmed by the torque back then*, and the Pillion was not heavy so it really wasn't any less peppy... Until I got a poke in the ribs and told to behave. *Still am actually
Try pricing it up with just the individual parts you actually want rather than buy-in the 'packs'. All I wanted were the Aux lights and heated grips and this was a lot cheaper than buying 2 packs with a bunch of bits I didn't want. I assume you are looking at the new DVT models?
That made me giggle stonesie. I pondered that Twin4me. So i perused the Riders site and found a lovely 2014 Pikes Peak version with a tiny amount of miles for 4k less than the bikes I was looking at! Im buying it sharpish lol
Good stuff - The pre DVT model are just as good (and didn't come with the 'packs' nonsense), some people actually prefer them. You can buy any bits you want from Ducati Performance catalogue, or just keep your eyes open on here as people will often sell their parts when they upgrade (I've just done this and sold a bunch of parts). Idea: you might even be able to persuade the dealer to give you a discount on parts if you buy the bike from them?
PS if it's the one pictured on the website make sure you get the original short Pikes Peak carbon screen, (it's fitted with a massive touring screen)
