Ok so I'm waiting for a call back from the garage but I made a video of what it's doing and put the link to YouTube on here.
I have to admit I'm stumped! If it was me id be trying a different ecu as I've not seen that before with the 'usual' problems like fecked R/R,dead batt or buggered relays.
Not fixed as yet, waiting for a call from the shop as to what to do, how to fix , etc. The headlight works when the key is turned and the pass button works but not the full beam.
From the video, that display is not at all random, the bike seems to have entered a very specific mode. If @chrisw suggests it's Boot Load and the cause is usually a duff battery, then take that seriously. He knows about these things. In the first instance, clean up the battery connections. If that doesn't work, replace the battery with a good quality AGM battery, preferably Yuasa and get the shop to pay. Then get a cable kit from @Exige on here if you want your bike to start enthusiastically and you want to preserve your sprag clutch.
I am taking what everyone says seriously and the help is excellent. It's just that I've only had the bike 3 days and so I'm waiting to hear from the shop before I started digging around. Checking and cleaning the battery will be the first thing I do.
Ok so still no joy.!? Have dropped the battery out to try resetting anything and no luck. Checked the battery on the charger and reading 13.4v 0.86a. Cleaned the terminals, positive was a bit mucky but all cleaned up. Put battery back in and still the same. Took the key surround off to have a look at possibly the key/immob being the issue but nothing was obvious to me. My mate took the battery out his R1 to try that to eliminate a battery issue and still the same... Ecu problem.? Think it needs the experts on it... Waiting on some help/advise from St Neots motorcycles & Aylesbury Ducati.
Do you have a ducati buddy? Swap the ecu over? I don't have a spare otherwise I could send one over. Has the dealer volunteered any help?
Right still no luck. Took the battery out and took it to local bike shop where they drop tested it and the battery is ok, plenty of charge and working fine. Definitely think it is ecu related now... I have a Ducati buddy but he's got a panigale 1299s so not sure if I can use his ecu.
Does the 1098 have a transponder in the key ? I don't know enough to know if it is the ECU that recognises the key or some other gizmo which might complicate the simple option of trying a different ECU. Andy
Sorry to hear your 'non start' news. Nothing worse than something going wrong just a few days after purchase. If I can offer one bit of advice... Dont start doing too much work yourself just yet and dont allow any other mechanic/dealer to start taking the bike apart. To legally enforce your warranty rights you must give the dealer first opportunity to rectify any problems. If you tell them my mate has changed the ECU and pulled half the engine apart, they could play hard ball and not help at all. This doesnt always mean you've got to get the bike back to them but you should make them aware of what is a big problem.. The bike wont bloody start!!! Call them, and follow up all agreed actions by email. If you are too far away to easily return the bike, if the dealer is a good guy, he can offer to cover your repair costs at an agreed labour rate and parts cost. If you bought the bike three days ago and had it delivered without ever seeing (becoming very common, I did) you are protected by the 'distance buying regulation' and can just tel them to collect the bike an refund anytime in the first 30 days. They collect at their cost and must refund within 14 days of collection. Hopefully it wont come to that. The video is a great idea, send the dealer that video too.
i have not seen the dash do that ! re the 'load' message. have you plugged an the DDA? its under the the seat, if its there unplug it and see if theres a difference i know this might sound odd but check all the fuses, the OEM ones are really poor quaility, my ecu fuse had a hairline crack in it that caused all sorts of grief!
Spot on advice @MaxDec10 that's what I was going to do. I did see the bike and took it out for a 15 minute test ride before I bought it. I also rode it to the petrol station on the day it happened and that's as far as I got.! I have only done what the garage have suggested and no more, trouble is its been a week now and I'm starting to get fed up. What happened to going all out to help every customer.!? The DDA was never plugged in and is still in the box.
