  2. Does indeed look bad, like its had stones or something fired at it! Never seen that on any of my discs, little spots sure but not chips like that

  3. I wouldn't be at all happy with that.

I have had two sets of front discs replaced under warranty on my dvt.

Cant believe these are supposed to be off the panigale, I haven't replaced discs in 0ver 20 years of riding until I bought this bike!

  4. Must admit my dvt makes a LOT more noise than the old multi when pushing it around. Only done 1400 miles but will be checking mine later

  6. Warped.
one set at 1200 miles, another at 7000. Never warped a disc in my life.
I do 90% motorway miles. Bike now has 10000 miles and still on original tires. fronts have about another 3000 left. I think that shows you how hard I brake.
one thing I will say in Ducati's defence, I never had to argue with them, they just replaced them. One saving grace!

  7. I'm no expert on this, but I never saw any of this marking or pitting until sintered pads came out.
Just checked both PP (10K and 12.6K), the 998S (12K) and the KTM (27K), all Brembos with OEM disks.
The all seem fine, but my older Mutleys all suffered.

  14. I got through 3 sets of warped front discs on my 2010 Multi in 5 years with 20,000 miles 'summer season' miles. I'm 'light on the brakes' and the dealer implied I wasn't get enough heat in them. I put the bike through 2 MOT's during my ownership, and both times it failed due front brakes. In fairness Ducati replaced 2 sets without quibble, but on the 3rd time, (only some 4 months or so after the 2nd replacement) refused. Not happy.... Now got the DVT, so am really keeping an eye on this now after reading this thread !!

  15. Just looks like it's been against some wet pads, and then left to sit for a while between rides. I've had it happen on my 2013 during the first winter, but the disks haven't warped and the breaking is unaffected so I've never needed to take any further action.

  17. I don't think the pads on the rear are as close at rest, but I've had pitting like that on mine for over 20,000 miles now, so it doesn't necessarily lead to a failure. T

If you read some of the blurb about Brembo disks at the below link they refer to them as high carbon, low chromium and say that's good.

Brembo Brake Discs for Ducati Motorcycles

But the below regarding the properties of stainless with regards to corrosion indicates that increased chromium means reduced corrosion.

Corrosion resistance | More stainless | Products & properties | Global | Outokumpu

So I guess we can't have everything. :disappointed:

  18. My DVT standard has 4800 miles and, aside from a little discolouring on the inside edges of the discs, they are fine. Certainly no surface pitting like you have.

  19. Quite. A classic engineering compromise, iron gives better braking, stainless lasts longer.

  20. Brake cleaner is pretty nasty stuff and not something to be used too often i would have thought.
