Help.! 1098s Won't Start.?

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Turbo1098s, Mar 13, 2016.

  1. No problem Turbo... Tell us what communication you've had with the dealer up to this point and what their response has been to your report that the bike is basically not fit for purpose!

I'd say call them today and arrange a time to discuss the plan of action in detail and agree when they will collect/accept the bike back for repair. Send an email to confirm all this and keep it all positive at this early stage. Sometimes you just need to the right person (owner/manager) involved to ensure things get done.

Forwarned is forearmed... So start exploring the 'sale of goods' act relating to vehicles being 'fit for purpose'. The county court will not look favorably on a trader selling a bike that worked for only one day and then refuses to help.

So... keep it all upbeat and professional with the trader but make them aware you now exactly how this stuff works.

  2. Ok so I spoke to the garage today and they are coming to pick the bike up to take it back and get it on their diagnostics to then, in his words "get it back to me all fixed". Even got an apology too which was good.

I'm hoping it is an easy fix and therefor a quick one...

Will keep posting on here until it's fixed and then hopefully the diagnosis and solution to the problem.

  3. coolio...

  4. Excellent news. It sounds like the trader is one of the good ones.

I'd still send an email saying thanks for the swift action etc but essentially using the email to confirm the details of the fault (include the video link) and what's required for collection and re-delivery. Ask for a detailed list of parts used in the repair. As you now own the bike you want to keep a record of what's been done. Nothing is worse than when traders just say "yeah it's fixed".

This may sound like over kill but what you're doing is essentially building an audit trail should everything go sour with the trader and/or bike. Nothing is left to conjecture and he said, she said etc. It's all in writing and worth its weight in gold should you need to take it further. I'll be completely honest, traders don't like this approach because they usually want the buyer confused and ill informed.

  5. Sent your video to Riderlogic in Oz. Here's his reply

    Wow, thats a new one.

It could be either corrosion on the dash or the eeprom memory has either lost or added lines, stopping the status check.

Either way, its definitely the dash at fault.

I'd start with removing the dash and opening it up to check the board, from there it would take a bit more work. You can suggest him to me if you want, at least I could rewrite the dash with a file and see ow it goes.

  9. Ok been a while...

Garage where I got it from took it back but were unable to diagnose or fix the problem. They have since then delivered it to Ducati moto in Preston who after a while have diagnosed the problem as the dash at fault. @chrisw :upyeah:

Garage are now taking the bike back for their electrical tech guy to try and sort out, if not then possibly a dash replacement...

Hopefully will all be done soon, missed too many nice weekends and unfortunately couldn't take it to the first BSB round at Silverstone.

    Will keep peeps updated.

  10. I would investigate the possibility of a loan bike , FOC ,whist yours is out of action. Whilst this might not be possible for the shop it would help focus their time and effort on repairing the bike quicker.

  11. Wow not posted in here for a while...

Ok the bike is now all fixed, after a diagnosis from Ducati moto in Preston it was the dash at fault. After the garage where I got it from messed about for what was an age (again) they finally decided they couldn't fix it. Then sent the dash to Motomatrix who checked it out and replaced one of the microprocessors in the dash.

Was promised a detailed breakdown of what was changed and replaced but yet again failed to deliver.! Will never be dealing with or recommending them to anyone. Not even a courtesy call to ask if the bike is still ok.

Just glad I now have my fully working 1098s back and am now enjoying the riding...

Also finally managed to get a pic of it for my profile.
