1200 DVT Rear Brake

  1. I know the mechanics amongst us will have a laugh at this but one of my grumbles has been the spongy back brake which I presumed I just had to get on with, as it seemed to be a common complaint. I've just adjusted the brake pedal up relative to the footrest and the master cylinder control rod to reduce the play and it's made a huge difference. The rear brake is now firm and responsive and feels so much better. No idea why the factory setting is so soft and spongy. Anyone suffering the same issue and not already tried this, the instructions for making the adjustments are in the manual.

  2. Be careful with doing that as when you have less play once everything heats up your brake will bind and overheat the pads/caliper and disc, have seen some pretty much destroyed

  3. Yes good point. What I was referring to was taking up the slack caused by raising the pedal. It's obviously important to leave the suggested 2-5 mm free play before the brake bites.
