999 Peg Vibrations

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by Cream_Revenge, Apr 17, 2016.

  1. Hey
How do I dampen the foot peg vibrations on my MY03? Far worse than the 996. Bars and rest of bike is fine. I always ride on my toes which probably does not help.

    Thx

  2. How about sorbathane insoles for your boots? Used to wear then when I got shinsplints running. Might take some of the vibration out.

I've got rizoma rearsets, but I've never found it an issue.

  3. How is your chain and two sprockets?

  4. Assume the adjustment of the chain isn't too tight and the front sprocket well torqued?

Other things that I have come across that caused vibration, cheap brake discs where the bolt holes were slightly off set from center, very poor balancing of a rear tyre.

I get no noticeable vibes from my 749s, in fact it is really quite comfy considering I am 6ft. :)

  5. Chain I think is fine.

    Not checked front sprocket.

Front discs are fully floating Galffer with only a few 0000 mls. Brand new pads.

Rest of bike is fine, just the pegs.

  6. One thing comes to mind, the other day it was on the paddock stand and I started her and put her in first, it was......juddery. Not smooth.

    Tight spot on the chain?

  7. I ride on my toes too and I wouldn't call the 749/999 vibey, based on the bikes I've ridden. The judder isn't normal either.

I would definitely be looking first at chain/sprocket issues tight-spots etc but after that, I don't want to speculate. Hopefully there is a nice, cheapish solution to your vibes issue.

What is the clutch's history? New, old, don't know?

  8. Clutch is original but just 6k mls, was manky, now cleaned, quiet mode engaged as made stupidly loud noise, in my opinion.

  9. Just wondering about the juddering you mention. Maybe just a one-off?

  10. How do I stick a video clip in the thread???

  11. Rear wheel spins freely, chain seems about right, put her in gear and it jumps and clatters every so often, is this normal???? As I say, she rides fine and I cant feel or here what shows here while riding, I just get tingling/numb toes after about 1 hour.

    new clip below

  12. Can't run the video where I am at the moment, hopefully someone will be along shortly.

  13. Obviously she doesn't start first press, the chain kind of "judders".

If i take her up to 2.5K/3K RPM it stops. Could it be fueling and need my throttle bodies balanced and CO set up? Or tick over struggling to turn the wheel? I've also read it could be the inertia of the rear wheel turning.

  14. I don't think you can read too much into that, the pulses from the motor at tickover will make an unloaded rear wheel jerk about. It's a bit hard to tell exactly how loose/tight the chain is but it looks a bit on the tight side to me

  15. Chain was pretty much spot on from what I remember, manual said to measure from bottom of swing arm to bottom of chain in the middle point when chain depressed. Can't remember the mm off top of head.

    So, about my numb tootsies.............

  16. Yeah I wouldn't read to much into the chain jumping when running it on the stand. Maybe it could be as simple as your rearsets need adjusting for you???
